Finding your eternal soulmate – easy.
Stopping a true-love-hungry evil – not so much…
After breaking a centuries-old romantic curse, Emma Connor is (almost) glad to get back to normal problems. Although…it’s not easy dealing with the jealous cliques and gossip that rule her exclusive Upper East Side prep, even for a sixteen-year-old newbie witch. Having the most-wanted boy in school as her eternal soul mate sure helps ease the pain-especially since wealthy, rocker-hot Brendan Salinger is very good at staying irresistibly close….
But something dark and hungry is using Emma and Brendan’s deepest fears to reveal damaging secrets and destroy their trust in each other. And Emma’s crash course in über-spells may not be enough to keep them safe…or to stop an inhuman force bent on making their unsuspected power its own.
SPELLCASTER is the sequel to Cara Lynn Shultz's first book, SPELLBOUND. Spellcaster takes place, I believe, a couple months after the events of Spellbound. Emma and Brendan have defeated the curse but are faced with a new threat in this book. Let's just say, a "blast from Brendan's past" is targeting Emma, her powers, and her hottie, hot-hot boyfriend. My first thoughts: What a fantastic sequel! I remember really enjoying Spellbound so I was a little scared that this book wouldn't meet my expectation- but no worries, it surpassed them !
Although I couldn't remember much at the beginning of Spellcaster, it didn't take long for me to see why I loved the first book so much. One word.......Brendan. *wink,wink- nudge, nudge* I mean seriously guys, I was hooked after reading the first line that came out of Brendan's mouth. His protectiveness over Emma (while also having faith in her to fight her battles) just made me swoon. Not to mention that Emma seems to be constantly reminding us how "good looking" Brendan is- no one likes a bragger Emma ;) .....Just kidding, brag away! My only complaint would have to be that with all the intense make-out sessions I was hoping Shultz would have given us a little bit more. sighh
I have to say that Angelique really stood out in this book as well. Her bickering with her cousion Randi, and attitude towards Brendan gave a lot of humor to the story. She is the perfect best friend for Emma because, by reading a couple of scenes through Angelique's POV, we can clearly see how she's always looking out for Emma's best interests. Team Angelique! Hoot Hoot!
Like the cover for Spellbound, I really liked the cover for Spellcaster. It was nice to see them follow the same "pattern" for the look of both books. Although, my only complaint would be that unlike Spellbound (where I understood what scene the cover was representing)...I don't quite understand what the falling leaves stand for in Spellcaster. Fortunately the leaves add a pop of colour that looks really pretty, so I can't complain to much :)
“I couldn't help it: Brendan was abs-olutely pec-tacular, horrible puns intended and very accurate.”
“Well I'll be honest...sometimes it's really hard-"
"I know." I smirked, feeling saucy. "I can tell. I'm pretty much straddling you right now."
"Really hard to stop, smart-ass," Brendan emphasized, giving me a playful squeeze before cocking an eyebrow at me.”
-Brendan and Emma
"The lightbulb is gone," she said awed. "Emma, you said, 'Lights, begone' and you literally made the lights be gone."
"How do I get them back?" I asked, panicked. "What's the opposite of begone? Regone?"
-Angelique and Emma
Overall if you loved Spellbound then you'll love Spellcaster, possibly, even more! Cara Lynn Shultz has said on her site that, currently, Spellcaster is the end for Emma and Brendan- *cries loudly*. That being said, the ending of Spellcaster was good while also leaving room for another book, so who knows, maybe we will get a third book fingers crossed! Be sure to check out the Spellcaster Music Blog Tour going on here between March 19 - April 6, 2012! One reader will win a Spellcaster IPod Nano *sighs in awe* !! Let me know your thoughts on Spellcaster, who your favourite characters are, and if you want a third book! Keep Reading!
