Strange things are happening to Daire Santos. Crows mock her, glowing people stalk her, time stops without warning, and a beautiful boy with unearthly blue eyes haunts all her dreams. Fearing for her daughter’s sanity, Daire’s mother sends her to live with the grandmother she’s never met. A woman who recognizes the visions for what they truly are—the call to her destiny as a Soul Seeker—one who can navigate the worlds between the living and dead.
There on the dusty plains of Enchantment, New Mexico, Daire sets out to harness her mystical powers. But it’s when she meets Dace, the boy from her dreams, that her whole world is shaken to its core. Now Daire is forced to discover if Dace is the one guy she’s meant to be with…or if he’s allied with the enemy she’s destined to destroy.

Fated is the fist book in #1 New York Times Bestselling Author Alyson Noël's Soul Seekers. Many of you probably remember Alyson Noël as author of the very successful Immortals and Riley Bloom series. Although I haven't read any of the Riley Bloom books, I did read every single book in the Immortals and I am a huge fan! When Alyson Noel announced this new series, I was very excited! First thoughts? Ummm.....sigh.....I was kind of disappointed with this book. I really, really wanted to love it but after mulling it over last night I knew I couldn't say I did. I found Fated was lacking in quite a few places.
Daire, obviously the main character, was an 'okay' character. I liked seeing that she actually thought things through logically, rather than just jumping into bad scenarios. Although, there were a few times where I found her character a little wishy-washy and annoying.
I felt like the romance in the synopsis was built up a lot more than it actually is in the book. I'm a romance freak so this was a major blow for me. Daire starts off having these steamy encounters with Dace in her dreams, but when it comes to their relationship in real life, the whole thing was just blahhhhh. Dace's classification as the "good twin" just makes him extremely boring (definitely nothing compared to the swoon worthy Damen in the Immortals). What really boggles my mind is that, practically nothing went on between Daire and Dace...but...all of a sudden, by the end, their boyfriend and girlfriend?! What the hell? It just makes no sense. What I'm really hoping for in book two is that we'll get to see a deeper side to Dace's character- right now he's to good...I need to see some bad boy in him *she pleads desperately
The evil-bad guy in Fated was a bit of a let down. Cade (Dace's evil twin) felt like one of those bad actors on tv that overact their role. I think Noel was trying to create an intimidating and mysterious character, but instead, I looked at him as a big-egoed teenager. While Dace was too good, Cade was too bad......together they might be a decent character! In addition, the climax of the book completely lacked the action it needed to become more exciting.

Although it seems like I'm just going on a rant about all the things I didn't like about this book, there were parts I thoroughly enjoyed. For one, I really liked seeing Daire's relationship with her grandmother (Paloma) grow throughout the book. Paloma is a pretty bad-ass grandma! I also loved Xotichl (still don't know how to pronounce that...) and Auden. Not only is Xotichl one of the most interesting characters, but her relationship with Auden is incredibly sweet! I can't wait to see more in book two.
Favourite Quotes...

“Are you staring at me because you've seen my doppelganger roaming the halls, playing kind of the cafeteria? Or because you need to borrow a pencil and you're too shy to ask?”

“So it's a yes, then?""To blue-corn pancakes or being your girlfriend?”

“Some may say I'm perceptive""And what would you say?" I ask, my voice edgy, tired of being toyed with."I'd say I agree.”

Overall...

Overall Fated was less than what I hoped for. Although a disappointment, I'm still looking forward to seeing what Alyson Noël does with these characters in book two. Echo, the second book, will be released November 13,2012! For those of you who have read Fated, here's the synopsis for Echo:

The Richters, a dark family of sorcerers, have been let loose in the Lowerworld, and Daire and her boyfriend, Dace, must once again work together to find them before they upset the balance between good and evil, and destroy not only their small town in New Mexico, but the entire world.
As Daire and Dace’s relationship deepens, Dace’s evil brother Cade grows stronger than ever, building his power and forcing Daire to confront the horrifying prophecy that has brought them all together. One that will leave Daire no choice but to claim her true destiny as Seeker, but only by making an unthinkable sacrifice for the greater good of all.

However; right now I need some Literature Review Help for my English classes but I will get back to your post, once I get some time.
