     Can true love be forgotten?
     As the only Scion who can descend into the Underworld, Helen Hamilton has been given a nearly impossible task. By night she wanders through Hades, trying to stop the endless cycle of revenge that has cursed her family. By day she struggles to overcome the fatigue that is rapidly eroding her sanity. Without Lucas by her side, Helen is not sure she has the strength to go on.
     Just as Helen is pushed to her breaking point, a mysterious new Scion comes to her rescue. Funny and brave, Orion shields her from the dangers of the Underworld. But time is running out—a ruthless foe plots against them, and the Furies’ cry for blood is growing louder.
     As the ancient Greek world collides with the mortal one, Helen’s sheltered life on Nantucket descends into chaos. But the hardest task of all will be forgetting Lucas Delos.

   Dreamless is the second book in Josephine Angelini's Starcrossed trilogy. I read the first book, Starcrossed, just last summer- so when I stumbled upon the second book at my local bookstore last weekend I was very excited. Although I didn't remember many details from the first book, it didn't take me long to get caught up!

   Dreamless starts off with our heroine, Helen, kind of in a bad place. Not only is she trapped in the Underworld every night, but she has also found out her true love is *swallows* her cousin!! While Helen struggles with staying away from Lucas, a new boy makes an appearance in the Underworld- a boy Helen can't help but noticing. With a new love triangle and a race to stop the Furies, Dreamless is a must read sequel!

   Helen really surprised me in Dreamless. From the very beginning, we start to see growth in her character as we witness her traumatizing experiences in the Underworld. Her mental strength was very visible in the decisions she made in both the Underworld and Earth. I also loved seeing her stand on her own a bit more by exploring a life without Lucas in it.

   There's a major "tug of war" going on in Lucas and Helen's relationship. They continue to be torn on staying away from each other (because their friggen related....oh em gee!) and fighting the urge to give into their feelings for one another. With that being said, a new guy suddenly makes his way into Helen's life. After helping her leave the Underworld without nearly killing herself, Orion and Helen begin to work together to put an end to the Furies. The love triangle didn't bother me as much as I thought it would when I first read the synopsis. I actually think it had a natural place in the story- unlike some other books where all of a sudden "plop", there's a love triangle. Although I do have a preference *cough* Lucas *cough*, Orion was still an enjoyable character to read. I can't wait to see where Angelini takes this storyline in book three.

   I continued to enjoy the Greek mythology Josephine Angelini uniquely uses in both Starcrossed and Dreamless. I particularly enjoyed seeing Persephone and Hades in this book- their myth is currently really  popular among the Y.A. genre, and I enjoyed reading Angelini's new take on the duo!

Favourite Quotes...

“Why can't it just work?" she moaned. "Just once I want to come up with a plan and have it work. Is that too much to ask?"
Orion opened his mouth, about to say something to calm Helen down.
"Of course it isn't!" Helen interrupted, her rant picking up steam. "But nothing works down here! Not our talents, not even the geography works. That lake over there is tilted on a slope! It should be a river, but oh, no, not down here! That would make too much sense!”

~~~~~
“You're my invisible sun, aren't you?”
Overall...
   Overall Dreamless was a really great second installment in the Starcrossed trilogy- I am eagerly awaiting the release of book three, Goddess, next year! Even though Lucas isn't as present in Dreamless, there is plenty of hotness to soothe all of your cravings bookworms! Be sure to check out the book trailer for DREAMLESS below :) Keep Reading!
  2. Well, it's good that the character grows. Stressful though.
