Memory Lane Monday: Bras and Broomsticks by Sarah Mlynowski

Yes, it is that time of the week. The day we dread and wish would never come- Mondays. *Wipes tear* But have no fear, Memory Lane Monday is here! Every Monday, here at TheYABookworm, I'll do a special post called Memory Lane Monday. What's that you ask? Memory Lane Monday is a once-a-week post where I (or any other bloggers that wish to participate)  choose one book that I've previously read to be featured on that day. From the book chosen, I will pick two of my favourite quotes and write a little blurb containing my quick thoughts on the book. The books that I choose will not be books I've reviewed- since I've read so many books, I want to share with you my opinions on ones that I won't get the chance to fully review (because seriously, rereading dozens of books would take a year...or two)! Be sure to participate by leaving your "Memory Lane Monday" in the comments, or a link to your blog post with the hash-tag #YAMemoryLaneMonday on twitter :D

This Weeks Memory Lane Monday....

Bras and Broomsticks By: Sarah Mlynowski

~~~~~
   What if all your wishes could come true? Blink your eyes, drink a fizzing pink potion, and poof! Life is perfect. That's Rachel's situation. Except she's not the one who suddenly has magical powers. Her younger sister is. And as Rachel would tell you, spellbooks are wasted on the young!
   Yes, yes, of course world peace and cures for horrible diseases are important. But so is dancing without looking like she's being electrocuted, winning back her best friend, stopping her dad's wedding, and finding a date for Spring Fling.
   Rachel's not bewitched. Yet. . . .
Top Two Favourite Quotes...
#1  "Did I accidentally swap shoes with someone after gym? Am I a thief? Impossible. The only time I ever took anything that wasn't mine was when I inadvertently wore Jewel's retainer. Gross, yes. But ciminal? No."
#2 "How do I look?"
She starts at my feet and slowly looks up. "Amazing." But then her gaze rests on my face, and she grimaces. "Uh-oh" she says.
"Uh-oh? What's uh-oh?"
"I think you may need more concealer. Or you might be having an allergic reaction to the makeup."
"Are you kidding?"
...
I run into the connected bathroom to look in the mirror at what they are all yammering about. Oh, no. It's baaaaaaack.
   Bras and Broomsticks is the first instalment in author Sarah Mlynowski's Magic in Manhattan series.  Some of you probably know this author from Ten Things We Did (And Probably Shouldn't Have) which I reviewed here! With today being my first day of summer vacation, I wanted to share a nice light-hearted, funny book in celebration. This particular book is perfect for anyone who wants an entertaining read to pass the time this summer.
   Bras and Broomsticks follows teenage drama-queen Rachel, who discovers her mother and sister are both witches. The problem? Rachel isn't! To top it off, Rachel must struggle to stop her father's wedding and find a way to steal a guy's heart. What I like most about this book is the way Mlynowski takes a popular YA topic like a witchcraft, and turns it into such a humorous read. This book is especially great for a younger audience, while also being entertaining enough to keep the older ones reading! Bras and Broomsticks is also now available in a magical duo (see what I did there :P )with the second book in the series, Frog and French Kisses! You must check this book out! See you next Monday!
