Violet McKenna is back for her senior year at Winterhaven and thrilled to be with Aidan after a long summer apart. But while their love for each other is as strong as ever, their troubles are far from over.

News of a rogue vampire on a killing spree sets everyone on edge. While Aidan is determined to stop the killer, Violet is chilled by a horrifying vision she simply must prevent...for if she can’t, two people she loves will meet a violent end.

In the midst of Violet’s fear, a mysterious newcomer enters her life—and he has some vital information not just about her past, but about her future as well. Now everything Violet held as truth is upended, and she is left not knowing whom to trust, if she is in danger, and—worst of all—whether she and Aidan are really meant to be together.

Mirage is the second instalment in author Kristi Cook's Winterhaven trilogy. When I read the first book Haven last summer, I clearly remember reading it within a few hours. I loved the characters, the plot, Aidan, everything.......Ohhhhh it was fabulous! So when I was trying to decide which book I was going to read out of my stack of TBRs, I said, "Caitlin...be honest....you must read friggen MIRAGE!" I am glad to say that I was not disappointed- Mirage was a hot and addicting sequel.

I continued to love our heroine Violet in Mirage. Both her visions and relationship with her vampire boyfriend continued to bring along issues that I think she handled with ease. This was especially apparent in the last few pages of Mirage. There is a lot that happens in the conclusion that I felt Violet dealt with a lot better than I would have expected! In addition to her mental strength, I also loved seeing Violet continue to work hard at school and take the time to hang out with her friends. It might seem very random, but I loved seeing her making these normal, every-day things a priority.

The romance in this series continued to make me swoon....a lot....Aidan, Violet's dashingly handsome beau, has both a romantic and dark side that makes him alluring and hot as hell. Small things like the way Aidan refers to Violet as "love" just make me want swoon over and end it all! His supernatural vampire trait also makes his character that much more addicting! Both him and Violet make an incredible duo- and I'm not just saying that because of the awesome make-out sessions we all get the pleasure of reading....I swear ;)

Mirage also brings along new discoveries and characters that made the second book very interesting. We get a deeper look into Violet's *looks up strange word* Sâbbat purpose- leaning about a particular character who's Violet's Megvéd. We are also introduced to a new character, Tyler, who's fencing skills make winning a challenge for Violet. I loved all the drama Tyler brought with him- he really added some great humour to the story!

My only complaint with Mirage was that the ending wasn't as action packed as I would have hoped. There wasn't as much build up as there was in book one, and I found the ending went by really fast. Although, that being said, Kristi Cook ended Mirage in an unexpected and cruel way-I loved it and hated it at the same time (and the only reason I hated it was because of the year I have to wait for book three!!)

Favourite Quotes...

"I have so many regrets, Vi. But you"-he brought my hand to his heart-"you're the one thing in my life that I don't regret. This heart beats only for you."

"Wait, is he going to show up? In he picture, I mean?""Why wouldn't he? Oh, you mean because..." I trailed off, realization dawning on me. Only one way to find out. "Hey, Aidan," I called out mimicking taking a picture. "Myth or fact?"Myth," he yelled back with a lopsided grin.

Overall...

Overall Mirage was an absolutely addicting sequel in the Winterhaven series! Its got just the right amount of humor, drama, and make-out sessions every great book needs.  I am both eager for book three and sad that it will be the end. What are your thoughts on Mirage? Are you effected by the Aidan-effect as much as Violet is? Be sure to leave a comment and check out the book trailer for Mirage below! Keep Reading!
