Because of Low By: Abbi Glines

Because of Low (Sea Breeze #2)

Marcus Hardy had hoped to enjoy a year away at college while he put the summer he’d rather forget behind him. But instead, he’s jerked right back to the coastal town of Sea Breeze, Alabama due to a family crisis. His dear ol' dad found himself a girlfriend only a few years older than Marcus. So now his sister needs help dealing with their mother who is mentally falling apart. The only bright spot to returning is the fascinating red head who sleeps over several times a week. The problem is she's sleeping in bed with his new roommate, Cage Watson.

Willow “Low” Foster needs a place to live. Running to Cage’s apartment every time her sister kicks her out isn’t exactly a long term solution. Juggling her courses at the local community college and a part time job doesn’t produce excess income. But Cage has a new roommate and suddenly sleeping over at her best friend’s apartment isn’t such a bad thing. Not when she gets to see those sexy green eyes of Marcus Hardy’s twinkle when he smiles at her like he wants her there.
Even though Cage seems a little territorial where Low is concerned, Marcus finds time to spend with Low without upsetting his roommate. Cage may use his small college baseball star persona to sleep with every hot female in his path but he’s still under the disillusion that when he’s through sowing his wild oats, he’s going to marry Low. Marcus intends to change that assumption for both Cage and Low. Until his carefully laid plans come crashing down with a revelation he never expected. He’ll have to choose between Low or his family. Because once the truth comes out.... there’s no other choice.

Because of Low is the second book in author Abbi Glines' Sea Breeze series. The first book Breathe was absolutely amazing, but I think I liked Because of Low a bit more! Haven't heard of Breathe? No worries, hop on over to my review here!

Now, I have a confession to make...I read Because of Low before I read Breathe. And although you might think it's not a big deal because it focuses on different characters....it is. Because I did read Because of Low first, I immediately saw Marcus' sexy and pretty confident attitude. But what really affected me was seeing him in Breathe, and thinking "he's not exciting at all." If anything, being able to see this difference in Marcus' character confirms that Marcus ended up with exactly who he should have.

Unlike the sweet romance in Breathe, Because of Low is downright sexy. It has that same romance aspect but with a lot more scenes that will sure have girls endlessly swooning. The connection between Marcus and Low was steamy, hot and really fun. *blushes* Although that being said, the book has it's fair amount of "awwww" moments- it's a perfect addicting combination, I couldn't get enough of it.

There is a hint of a love triangle in Because of Low between Marcus, Low, and Low's lifetime friend Cage. Low and Cage have been close forever, and Cage has always been there by her side. I at times found Cage a bit selfish. Deep down you can see he really cares about Low, but I felt like he looked at her as his possession. He took her presence in his life for granted, so I never felt like he was all that right for Low. His character has a lot of potential though, so I'm very interested to read his story in book three!

I really loved the main character Low. Due to certain events in her life, she has been forced to grow up quickly-making her a mature character. That being said, her dependence on Cage and relationship with Marcus brought out a vulnerability in her that makes her very relatable. She has a strength in her that is admirable and a fun side that is an absolute joy to read. An all around great character!

Being able to read through both Marcus and Low's POV was a huge plus for me. I was actually kind of disappointed that this double-POV wasn't in the first book. Having the ability to read what both characters are thinking allow you to fall in love with the couple that much faster and harder. Reading Marcus' reactions and feelings towards Low, and  then seeing how they compared with Low's, was an absolute treat. Sometimes, especially in paranormal books, having only one POV is best because it adds a certain type of mystery to the male lead....but in a book like Because Of Low it adds so much the story! I hope *fingers crossed* Abbi Glines continues this in book three!!

Favourite Quotes...

He stood back up and studied me a moment before reaching out and rubbing my bottom lip with his thumb. "I'm not done here. I'm just beginning Low. But I couldn't walk away again without that kiss."

Ah hell when did I go and fall in love with her.

I bent over him to put the pillow under his head when two hands grabbed my waist and pulled me down on top of him."Mmmm, that's better," he whispered before claiming my mouth.

Overall...

Overall Because of Low is the perfect steamy romance for the summer! Abbi Glines has way of turning you into goo while reading- it's an addicting feeling that I wish was in every book. I finished this book last week on my plane back home and I'm still thinking about it! The third book in the Sea Breeze series, While it Lasts, comes out July 31,2012 *sigh of relief* I can't tell you how excited I am that MORE is coming!! Like I mentioned earlier, While it Lasts will focus on Cage's own story- and knowing Cage's personality, I predict it will be quite a hot read ;) Be sure to leave a comment, subscribe and follow me on twitter- I follow back! Keep Reading!

  2. Great review. I'm with you 200%. I read B of L before reading Breathe... Marcus is so much more exciting tha Jax (IMHO). I guess the double POV helps with that. I also liek the fact that it is steamier than Breathe. Anyway, a few more weeks to wait and we'll get our hell-raiser Cage for another ride!

    1. I totally agree with you- I'm guessing While it Lasts will have the same double POV because of some of the snippets Abbi Glines has revealed on her website. I'm really curious to see how Cage's story goes ! =)
