Memory Lane Monday: Elixir by Hilary Duff

Yes, it is that time of the week. The day we dread and wish would never come- Mondays. *Wipes tear* But have no fear, Memory Lane Monday is here! Every Monday, here at TheYABookworm, I'll do a special post called Memory Lane Monday. What's that you ask? Memory Lane Monday is a once-a-week post where I (or any other bloggers that wish to participate)  choose one book that I've previously read to be featured on that day. From the book chosen, I will pick two of my favourite quotes and write a little blurb containing my quick thoughts on the book. The books that I choose will not be books I've reviewed- since I've read so many books, I want to share with you my opinions on ones that I won't get the chance to fully review (because seriously, rereading dozens of books would take a year...or two)! Be sure to participate by leaving your "Memory Lane Monday" in the comments, or a link to your blog post with the hash-tag #YAMemoryLaneMonday on twitter :D

This Week's Memory Lane Monday...
Elixir By: Hilary Duff

Clea Raymond has felt the glare of the spotlight her entire life. The daughter of a renowned surgeon and a prominent Washington DC politician, she has grown to be a talented photojournalist who takes refuge in a career that allows her to travel to the most exotic parts of the world. But after Clea’s father disappears while on a humanitarian mission, Clea’s photos begin to feature eerie, shadowy images of a strange and beautiful man—a man she has never seen before.

When fate brings Clea and this man together, she is stunned by the immediate and powerful connection she feels with him. As they grow closer, they are drawn deep into the mystery behind her father’s disappearance, and they discover the centuries old truth behind their intense bond. Torn by a dangerous love triangle and haunted by a powerful secret that holds their fates, together they race against time to unravel their pasts in order to save their lives—and their futures.

Top Two Favourite Quotes...
#1 “Who are you?" I asked.
"You know who I am," he replied. "I'm yours."

#2 “You're so convinced you'll disappoint people if you show them that you're not perfect. You don't realize you are perfect. Your imperfections are what make you perfect. They make you you. That's what people love. It's what I love too.”

New "Elixir" Cover
Elixir is the first novel in the Elixir trilogy by actress, mother, musician, and author Hilary Duff. Being the fan of Hilary Duff that I am, I was extremely excited to read Elixir when I found out Hilary was writing a Y.A. series! That being said, Elixir isn't the best book I've ever read. But I will say it's good enough that I've remembered a lot about the plot and characters- something I can't often say because storylines often mush together in my brain *sad face* Why are you so weak brain?!

The storyline isn't completely original (but it does have unique elements) and the plot moves along at a very quick pace (This makes it perfect for the bookworms out there that want a quick, romantic read.) People who have read Elixir and Evermore by Alyson Noel will understand me pointing out that there are similarities between the two novels. Since I had read Evermore before reading Elixir, I found it really hard to fall madly in love with this book because I think Evermore has a lot more depth to it.

All in all, when looking back on this book, I did think it was a fairly good introduction for newbie writer Hilary Duff and her co-author Elise Allen. The second novel, Devoted, is already out with the final book, True, set for a release on April 16, 2013 according to Goodreads. Elixir is definitely worth checking out :)

Have you read Elixir? What did you think of the relationship between Sage and Clea-did it move along too quickly? Or not fast enough? See you next Monday!

  1. I haven't read any of those books written by her, but I really want too. I probably will get all three of the books and read them in a readathon. :)

    1. Aww that's great! Like I said in the post, it may not be the best book I've ever read, but it sure did surprise me! I just LOVED that she created a Y.A. Paranormal/Romance =D
