Memory Lane Monday: The Hollow by Jessica Verday

Yes, it is that time of the week. The day we dread and wish would never come- Mondays. *Wipes tear* But have no fear, Memory Lane Monday is here! Every Monday, here at TheYABookworm, I'll do a special post called Memory Lane Monday. What's that you ask? Memory Lane Monday is a once-a-week post where I (or any other bloggers that wish to participate)  choose one book that I've previously read to be featured on that day. From the book chosen, I will pick two of my favourite quotes and write a little blurb containing my quick thoughts on the book. The books that I choose will not be books I've reviewed- since I've read so many books, I want to share with you my opinions on ones that I won't get the chance to fully review (because seriously, rereading dozens of books would take a year...or two)! Be sure to participate by leaving your "Memory Lane Monday" in the comments, or a link to your blog post with the hash-tag #YAMemoryLaneMonday on twitter :D

This Week's Memory Lane Monday...
The Hollow By: Jessica Verday

When Abbey's best friend, Kristen, vanishes at the bridge near Sleepy Hollow Cemetery, everyone else is all too quick to accept that Kristen is dead and rumors fly that her death was no accident. Abbey goes through the motions of mourning her best friend, but privately, she refuses to believe that Kristen is really gone. It only makes things worse that everyone now treats Abbey like either a freak show or a charity case. Thank goodness for Caspian, the gorgeous and mysterious boy who shows up out of nowhere at Kristen's funeral, and keeps reappearing in Abbey's life. Caspian clearly has secrets of his own, but he's the only person who makes Abbey feel normal again...but also special.

Just when Abbey starts to feel that she might survive all this, she learns a secret that makes her question everything she thought she knew about her best friend. How could Kristen have kept silent about so much? And could this secret have led to her death? As Abbey struggles to understand Kristen's betrayal, she uncovers a frightening truth that nearly unravels her—one that will challenge her emerging love for Caspian, as well as her own sanity.

Top Two Favourite Quotes...

#1 “Do you know what the name Astrid means?" He switched gears again and I was helpless to follow.
"No."
"It means 'star'. That's what I think of you as, Abbey. One day I looked up, and there you were. A fiery spot of light surrounded by darkness. You make me feel like anything is possible.”

#2 “Obviously this was one of those stupid guy moments and he didn't understand what I wanted. I was going to explain it to him very, very soon."

The Hollow is the first book in The Hollow Trilogy by author Jessica Verday. The Hollow is the start to one of my favourite trilogies! The entire book is focused around the  legend of Sleepy Hollow (a legend I had just learned about in school when I started reading this novel) and is set in an eerie cemetery where the dead interact with the living. Like all of the books I read, my favourite part was being introduced to the budding romance between Caspian and Abbey. Their story is both romantic and heartbreaking at the same time- a combination that fuels your eyes to read!

To this day, I still go to my bookshelf and will return to this book. It has an original storyline, an impossible romance and a lovable main character. It's a book filled with mystery that sets up an addicting plot for the next two books. The Hollow is definitely a favourite of mine! Have you read The Hollow before? Let me know your thoughts in the comments and be sure to check out the trailer below! See you next Monday!
