Memory Lane Monday: The Last Song by Nicholas Sparks

Yes, it is that time of the week. The day we dread and wish would never come- Mondays. *Wipes tear* But have no fear, Memory Lane Monday is here! Every Monday, here at TheYABookworm, I'll do a special post called Memory Lane Monday. What's that you ask? Memory Lane Monday is a once-a-week post where I (or any other bloggers that wish to participate)  choose one book that I've previously read to be featured on that day. From the book chosen, I will pick two of my favourite quotes and write a little blurb containing my quick thoughts on the book. The books that I choose will not be books I've reviewed- since I've read so many books, I want to share with you my opinions on ones that I won't get the chance to fully review (because seriously, rereading dozens of books would take a year...or two)! Be sure to participate by leaving your "Memory Lane Monday" in the comments, or a link to your blog post with the hash-tag #YAMemoryLaneMonday on twitter :D

This Week's Memory Lane Monday...
The Last Song By: Nicholas Sparks

Seventeen year-old Veronica “Ronnie” Miller’s life was turned upside-down when her parents divorced and her father moved from New York City to Wilmington, North Carolina. Three years later, she remains angry and alienated from her parents, especially her father… until her mother decides it would be in everyone’s best interest if she spent the summer in Wilmington with him. Ronnie’s father, a former concert pianist and teacher, is living a quiet life in the beach town, immersed in creating a work of art that will become the centerpiece of a local church. The tale that unfolds is an unforgettable story about love in its myriad forms – first love, the love between parents and children – that demonstrates, as only a Nicholas Sparks novel can, the many ways that deeply felt relationships can break our hearts… and heal them.

Top Two Favourite Quotes...
#1 “Mom says it's because she has PMS."
"Do you even know what that means?"
"I'm not a little kid anymore. It means pissed-at- men syndrome”

#2 “I’m stuck babysitting turtle eggs while a volleyball player slash grease monkey slash aquarium volunteer tries to hit on me.”
"I’m not hitting on you,” he protested.
"No?”
"Believe me, you’d know if I was hitting on you. You wouldn’t be able to stop yourself from succumbing to my charms.”

This week I chose to feature The Last Song by Nicholas Sparks for my Mmeory Lane Monday. Now I'll admit, I'm not a huge fan of Nicholas Sparks. I'm not saying he's not a good writer or anything, I just don't like how depressed I feel after reading his novels. So what made me read The Last Song? Simple. It was the movie!

After watching The Last Song with actress Miley Cyrus and actor Liam Hemsworth, I thought, "Hey, if I liked the movie- I'll LOVE the book!" So I ended up purchasing the novel and fell in love with the story. Yes, it does have its sad moments but for the most part the book was a beautiful love story. Seeing the growth in Ronnie's character, her relationship with Will, and how Ronnie faces certain struggles was fabulous! I loved it!

So all in all I definitely recommend this book to those who want to read  a good love story by Nicholas Sparks that won't leave you completely distraught :P Have you read The Last Song? Did you like the movie? Be sure to let me know in the comments below! Keep Reading!

Your Y.A. Bookworm,
Caitlin <3
