Memory Lane Monday: Cursed by Jennifer L. Armentrout

Yes, it is that time of the week. The day we dread and wish would never come- Mondays. *Wipes tear* But have no fear, Memory Lane Monday is here! Every Monday, here at TheYABookworm, I'll do a special post called Memory Lane Monday. What's that you ask? Memory Lane Monday is a once-a-week post where I (or any other bloggers that wish to participate)  choose one book that I've previously read to be featured on that day. From the book chosen, I will pick two of my favourite quotes and write a little blurb containing my quick thoughts on the book. The books that I choose will not be books I've reviewed- since I've read so many books, I want to share with you my opinions on ones that I won't get the chance to fully review (because seriously, rereading dozens of books would take a year...or two)! Be sure to participate by leaving your "Memory Lane Monday" in the comments, or a link to your blog post with the hash-tag #YAMemoryLaneMonday on twitter :D

This Week's Memory Lane Monday...
Cursed by Jennifer L. Armentrout
Dying sucks-- and high school senior Ember McWilliams knows firsthand. After a fatal car accident, her gifted little sister brought her back. Now anything Ember touches dies. And that, well, really blows.

Ember operates on a no-touch policy with all living things--including boys. When Hayden Cromwell shows up, quoting Oscar Wilde and claiming her curse is a gift, she thinks he's a crazed cutie. But when he tells her he can help control it, she's more than interested. There's just one catch: Ember has to trust Hayden's adopted father, a man she's sure has sinister reasons for collecting children whose abilities even weird her out.

However, she's willing to do anything to hold her sister's hand again. And hell, she'd also like to be able to kiss Hayden. Who wouldn't? But when Ember learns the accident that turned her into a freak may not have been an accident at all, she's not sure who to trust. Someone wanted her dead, and the closer she gets to the truth, the closer she is to losing not only her heart, but her life. For real this time.

Top Two Favourite Quotes...
#1 “What are you still doing up?”
I twisted around, spotting Hayden in the doorway. “Watching the… uh,” I turned back, frowning at the screen, “the… way tigers mate.” I sighed. Damn you, Discovery Channel.
He chuckled deep in his throat. “Didn’t know that kind of thing interested you.”
“Oh. Yeah, always wanted to know how they picked their boyfriends.”

#2 “For a brief second, I entertained the idea of ripping off my gloves, rushing down the hall, and jumping on Dustin’s back like a psychotic monkey.”

This week's Memory Lane Monday comes from Cursed by Jennifer L. Armentrout. Now, originally I was planning on doing a full review for this book, but because I have been falling a bit behind on my schedule (okay...really behind :$), I decided to share my thoughts on this book through this meme today! Cursed is a standalone novel by the the author behind the Covenant and Lux series (and if your a regular reader, you know that I absolutely love both of these series- Team Aiden and Daemon FTW!).

The book revolves around the struggles of Ember- a teenager who has the touch of death (an element Shatter Me fans will greatly appreciate!) What I really loved about reading through Ember's POV was how much I really felt all of  the emotions she was going through! When an author is able to make me feel the same anger or passion a character is feeling, I feel like they've done an excellent job!

Of course what we all want to hear about is the romance (Don't feel guilty...that's practically all I care about too ;P). Although I wouldn't put Hayden in the same "swoon-league" as Aiden and Daemon, he still has his fair share of fictional-boy-perfection! To top it off, the chemistry between Ember and Hayden is pretty hot! Remember that little dilemma Ember has (you know, the whole touch-of-death thing?) well, this creates a healthy dose of sexual tension between Ember and Hayden...in other words...lots of swooning !

Cursed may not be my favourite Jennifer L. Armentrout novel, but I do still think Cursed is a great read! I will say that I'm a bit disappointed that there isn't a sequel- after I finishing the book, I honestly feel that Ember's story isn't quite  finished yet. There's still some unanswered questions that I have (plus, a little more Hayden in my life wouldn't be a particularly bad thing.....XD) Have you read Cursed? What's your favourite JLA novel? Be sure to let me know in the comments! Keep Reading!

  1. I liked Cursed. Like you, I didn't think Hayden was all swoonworthy like Daemon (I haven't read the Covenant series yet), but I definitely liked him.

I also felt all the emotions ember was feeling. I felt so depressed for her when her friend left, I was nearly in tears. And I am not one to cry in books like this.

I sort of feel like Cursed helped me get through the wait time for Opal. Can't wait for Dec. 11!

    1. Oh I'm so glad I'm not the only one! I couldn't believe how much emotion I felt while reading Cursed- especially when Ember's thoughts were directed at her sister (her friend leaving was a tear-filled scene as well!)

I'm so excited for December 11th- I want more Daemon hotness :P !
