Feature & Follow Friday {12}

Feature and Follow Friday is a weekly meme hosted by Parajunkee and Alison Can Read!

This Week's Question...

Do you mind books with similar ideas to other books? Similar concepts, backgrounds, retellings or pulled-to-publish fanfic?

In all honesty, I don't mind at all. Of course I don't like books that are identical, but as long as the story has enough unique elements, it usually doesn't bother me. Over the past few years, I've read so many YA books that it's practically impossible not to find major and/or minor similarities between them all. As long as the book or series has characters that I really love, then I have no problems with overlapping ideas !

What's your answer to this week's question? Be sure to leave me a link to your #FF in the comments below so I can visit, follow, and read all of your answers! Happy Friday!

Your Y.A. Bookworm,
Caitlin <3

  1. I agree. So long as there are some differences, some overlap is OK!

  3. For me, there has to be enough difference for it to be at least slightly unpredictable, or I will get bored and not finish because it has no uniqueness to it. New follower via GFC. Your RSS link wouldn't work, or would have followed that way! I am at http://justanotherrabidreader.info

  4. If I were trying to find a book that didn't contain a single element similar to that of another book, I'd never read again. I'm OK with retellings and such as long as there's enough of a twist to make them fresh.

  6. I agree! There has to be something different between the two and there usually is for me when I read similar themed books! I like retellings as well, in the sense of fairy tales and myths! Reading two series that take on the Persephone myth, both are different yet tell the same kind of story, that being the myth.

    1. Yeah, because if they are EXACTLY the same, they're no longer fun to read!

  8. I agree, similarities as long as it's not following the same formula as another book are fine with me.

  13. I agree that it's somewhat impossible to find stories that are completely unique nowadays, but I do like it if there are at least some original concepts. Creativity! New follower! :)

  15. Yup, as long as there is something unique, I'm happy. It's when there doesn't seem to be anything unique that I get a bad taste....
