Memory Lane Monday: City of Ashes by Cassandra Clare

Yes, it is that time of the week. The day we dread and wish would never come- Mondays. *Wipes tear* But have no fear, Memory Lane Monday is here! Every Monday, here at TheYABookworm, I'll do a special post called Memory Lane Monday. What's that you ask? Memory Lane Monday is a once-a-week post where I (or any other bloggers that wish to participate)  choose one book that I've previously read to be featured on that day. From the book chosen, I will pick two of my favourite quotes and write a little blurb containing my quick thoughts on the book. The books that I choose will not be books I've reviewed- since I've read so many books, I want to share with you my opinions on ones that I won't get the chance to fully review (because seriously, rereading dozens of books would take a year...or two)! Be sure to participate by leaving your "Memory Lane Monday" in the comments, or a link to your blog post with the hash-tag #YAMemoryLaneMonday on twitter :D

This Week's Memory Lane Monday.....
City of Ashes By: Cassandra Clare
Clary Fray just wishes that her life would go back to normal. But what's normal when you're a demon-slaying Shadowhunter, your mother is in a magically induced coma, and you can suddenly see Downworlders like werewolves, vampires, and faeries? If Clary left the world of the Shadowhunters behind, it would mean more time with her best friend, Simon, who's becoming more than a friend. But the Shadowhunting world isn't ready to let her go — especially her handsome, infuriating, newfound brother, Jace. And Clary's only chance to help her mother is to track down rogue Shadowhunter Valentine, who is probably insane, certainly evil — and also her father.

To complicate matters, someone in New York City is murdering Downworlder children. Is Valentine behind the killings — and if he is, what is he trying to do? When the second of the Mortal Instruments, the Soul-Sword, is stolen, the terrifying Inquisitor arrives to investigate and zooms right in on Jace. How can Clary stop Valentine if Jace is willing to betray everything he believes in to help their father?

In this breathtaking sequel to City of Bones, Cassandra Clare lures her readers back into the dark grip of New York City's Downworld, where love is never safe and power becomes the deadliest temptation.

Top Two Favourite Quotes...
#1  Something inside Clary cracked and broke, and words came pouring out. "What do you want me to tell you? The truth? The truth is that I love Simon like I should love you, and I wish he was my brother and you weren't, but I can't do anything about that and neither can you!”

#2 “We came to see Jace. Is he alright?"
"I don't know," Magnus said. "Does he normally just lie on the floor like that without moving?”

City of Ashes is the second instalment in the wonderful, the amazing....*drum roll*.....Mortal Instrument series by Cassandra Clare! When I was first reading the series, I didn't think anything could get better than City of Bones, but let me tell you, I was proven wrong!

Each Mortal Instrument book, in my opinion, contains one or two "OMG" scenes that make me squeal, or have my jaw dropping-  sometimes it's even a little bit of both ! City of Ashes definitely has one of those little of both scenes! In City of Bones  it would be the greenhouse chapter (as well as the whole finding-out-clary-and-jace-are-brother-and-sister thing), but in City of Ashes, I would have to say it's Simon, Isabelle, Jace and Clary's visit to the Seelie Court. I read this book about three  years ago and I still, to this day, find myself re-reading this part...it's my bookworm guilty pleasure!

The love triangle between Clary, Simon and Jace is still very strong in this book, with the obstacles in the Shadowhunter world becoming that much more challenging! I don't know about you guys, but I am so glad that when I was reading this book, book three was already released! I don't know what I would've done if I would have had to wait a whole year to find out the ending to the trilogy (at this time, the Mortal Instruments was still only a trilogy- not a six book series)! What are your thoughts on City of Ashes? Do you have a favourite jaw dropping/squealing scene from this book? Be sure to let me know in the comments below! Keep Reading!
