No one is like Daemon Black.
When he set out to prove his feelings for me, he wasn’t fooling around. Doubting him isn’t something I’ll do again, and now that we’ve made it through the rough patches, well... There’s a lot of spontaneous combustion going on.
But even he can’t protect his family from the danger of trying to free those they love. After everything, I’m no longer the same Katy. I’m different... And I’m not sure what that will mean in the end. When each step we take in discovering the truth puts us in the path of the secret organization responsible for torturing and testing hybrids, the more I realize there is no end to what I’m capable of. The death of someone close still lingers, help comes from the most unlikely source, and friends will become the deadliest of enemies, but we won’t turn back. Even if the outcome will shatter our worlds forever.
Together we’re stronger... and they know it.
This book really need no introduction right? It's OPAL for crying out loud! Like every bookworm out there, after reading Onyx (Lux #2) I was going a little bit "cray cray" for book three-- Thankfully we didn't have to wait too long for Opal !
First of all, oh my goodness, Dawson is back *Can I get a hoot hoot?!* I honestly think that if you've read Shadows (Lux #0.5) you'll probably appreciate Opal more than if you haven't. Why? Lemme explain...In Shadows, not only do we get to read through Dawson's mind, but we also get to see how Beth and his relationship starts, progresses, and is torn apart. These two things are pretty important in my opinion. For one, there is multiple mentions in Opal that refer to Dawson not being like he was 'before.' I caught on to Dawson's changed attitude, but if you haven't read Shadows you won't really know what kind of character Dawson was before, as I like to put it, "shit hit the fan." More importantly, the plot of Opal for the most part is pushed forward by Dawson's need to get back Beth. Well, who's Beth? How did they meet? Why do I care? These are all questions you'll have if you don't get that history behind these two important characters. So to make a long story short.....read Shadows my friends!
I'm going to quote Dee when I say "Holy Alien Babies Everywhere! My Eyes! My Eyes!" ....This was my reaction prettyyy much every time Daemon was present. Like, honestly how much hotter can this alien get?! Although there continued to be lots of sizzle between Daemon and Katy, their relationship does have a more mature feel to it. Now that they've gotten over the "I don't love you! ....Let's make out!" phase (which, I'm not going to lie, was a really good phase....laptop scene anyone?! ...Am I right, or am I right?!:P ) we now enter the more long term Katy and Daemon phase-- still lots of making out, but with an added umph ! When reading this book I actually numerously nicknamed it a giant tease-- a very cruel giant tease! There's so much build up to what you hope will be, you know, *whispers* sex *brings voice back to normal-not-creepy level* but then it just stop abruptly and your left there, with a dumbfound look on your face screaming "Are you kidding me?!" ...Whether or not I finally got to see what I was waiting for, well, you'll just have to read the book to find out !!! ;)
I can't write this review without once again mentioning how in love I am with Katy. Her obsession with books and her blog just make me all giddy and in a weird way proud. Whenever she's writing a review or doing a vlog, I just sit there, grinning and saying, "That's our fictional bookworm!" ....I know, I'm crazy.....And while I'm on the topic of a character I really love, let me just throw out my opinion on a certain character *cough cough* Blake, that I don't particularly love very much. Actually, this guy frustrated me beyond belief, and even managed to creep me out after a certain very creepy revelation. *cringes*...notice the use of the word creepy !
Once again, if Deity wasn't bad enough, Jennifer L. Armentrout left me with another cruel, cruel cliffhanger. That's two JLA deadly cliffhangers within not even two months of each other......how do I live?! Be prepared bookworms....this cliffhanger is not a fun one....eyes will be clawed, screams will be heard, and hearts will most definitely shatter!
A slow, wry smile teased Daemon’s lips. "Simmer down, Kitten, before I have to get you a ball of yarn to play with."
Annoyance flared deep inside me. "Don’t start with me, jerk-face.”
“Honestly, as much as I love my brother, I’m not sure how I feel about him hanging out in your bedroom.” He reached out with a muscular arm and used his fingers to brush a few strands of hair off my cheek, tucking them behind my ear. I shivered, and he smiled. “I feel like I need to mark my territory.”
“Oh, I love it when you get all bossy-pants. It’s sexy.”
“He’s like a suicidal Energizer bunny.”
Overall I think Opal might be my favourite Lux book yet! It's got a different feel then the previous two books, and I have to say, I love it! I think my repeated use of explanation marks in this review says it all, but Lux fans MUST read Opal...and if you aren't yet a Lux fan then you need to go buy the first book, Obsidian, NOW (because missing out on this kind of awesomeness just isn't an option!!) What are your thoughts on the return of Dawson? What did you like most about Opal? Be sure to let me know in the comments below! Keep Reading!
