Memory Lane Monday: City of Glass by Cassandra Clare

Yes, it is that time of the week. The day we dread and wish would never come- Mondays. *Wipes tear* But have no fear, Memory Lane Monday is here! Every Monday, here at TheYABookworm, I'll do a special post called Memory Lane Monday. What's that you ask? Memory Lane Monday is a once-a-week post where I (or any other bloggers that wish to participate)  choose one book that I've previously read to be featured on that day. From the book chosen, I will pick two of my favourite quotes and write a little blurb containing my quick thoughts on the book. The books that I choose will not be books I've reviewed- since I've read so many books, I want to share with you my opinions on ones that I won't get the chance to fully review (because seriously, rereading dozens of books would take a year...or two)! Be sure to participate by leaving your "Memory Lane Monday" in the comments, or a link to your blog post with the hash-tag #YAMemoryLaneMonday on twitter :D

This Week's Memory Lane Monday...
City of Glass By: Cassandra Clare
To save her mother's life, Clary must travel to the City of Glass, the ancestral home of the Shadowhunters - never mind that entering the city without permission is against the Law, and breaking the Law could mean death. To make things worse, she learns that Jace does not want her there, and Simon has been thrown in prison by the Shadowhunters, who are deeply suspicious of a vampire who can withstand sunlight.

As Clary uncovers more about her family's past, she finds an ally in mysterious Shadowhunter Sebastian. With Valentine mustering the full force of his power to destroy all Shadowhunters forever, their only chance to defeat him is to fight alongside their eternal enemies. But can Downworlders and Shadowhunters put aside their hatred to work together? While Jace realizes exactly how much he's willing to risk for Clary, can she harness her newfound powers to help save the Glass City - whatever the cost?

Love is a mortal sin and the secrets of the past prove deadly as Clary and Jace face down Valentine in the final installment of the New York Timesbestselling trilogy The Mortal Instruments.

Top Two Favourite Quotes...
#1 “There is no pretending," Jace said with absolute clarity. "I love you, and I will love you until I die, and if there is life after that, I'll love you then.”

#2 “And I'm suppose to sit by while you date boys and fall in love with someone else, get married...?" His voice tightened. "And meanwhile, I'll die a little bit more every day, watching.”

City of Glass is the third instalment in the fabulous Mortal instruments series by Cassandra Clare. City of Glass is probably one of my favourite books in the series! There was SO many emotions that I went through when reading this book. I laughed, swooned, cried (yes, I shamelessly admit tears were shed), did  a happy dance, cracked a few ,"awwww's" here and there, and then cried again once the book was finished! You have to remember that when I was first reading City of Glass, everyone thought we were reading the last book about Jace and Clary-- there was no knowledge of a "second trilogy." It kills me to think I will have to go through this same agonizing/awesome process again when I read City of Heavenly Fire :'(

Obviously I want to keep this spoiler free for anyone who hasn't read City of Glass yet, but I will say that there are many discoveries revealed to us in this book. The novel, overall, has a very different vibe from the previous two and I think that has a lot to do with both the setting change and many of the characters' growth since book one. There was quite a bit of action and even an unexpected death that was one of the many causes  of my tears. In addition, being forced to witness the forbidden "romeo-and-juliet-like" romance between Jace and Clary was just...tortuous! I still to this today remember the gut wrenching feeling I had when I discovered Jace and Clary were siblings in City of Bones...but City of Glass healed the wounds of that revelation, by replacing it with an even better one ;)

That's it for this week's Memory Lane Monday. Be sure to let me know in the comments below what your favourite book in the Mortal Instrument series is, as well as whose team you are on: Jace or Simon?! See you next Monday!

  1. Whoa. I got chills reading those City of Glass quotes. I've read the book, but it was a few years ago, I think. I kind of want to read the books again :)

    1. I know what you mean-- those quotes do something to me when I read them! I've reread the series many times and it always manages to make me fall in love with the series a little bit more =)
