Memory Lane Monday: Reckoning by Lili St. Crow

Yes, it is that time of the week. The day we dread and wish would never come- Mondays. *Wipes tear* But have no fear, Memory Lane Monday is here! Every Monday, here at TheYABookworm, I'll do a special post called Memory Lane Monday. What's that you ask? Memory Lane Monday is a once-a-week post where I (or any other bloggers that wish to participate)  choose one book that I've previously read to be featured on that day. From the book chosen, I will pick two of my favourite quotes and write a little blurb containing my quick thoughts on the book. The books that I choose will not be books I've reviewed- since I've read so many books, I want to share with you my opinions on ones that I won't get the chance to fully review (because seriously, rereading dozens of books would take a year...or two)! Be sure to participate by leaving your "Memory Lane Monday" in the comments, or a link to your blog post with the hash-tag #YAMemoryLaneMonday on twitter :D

This Week's Memory Lane Monday...
Reckoning By: Lili St. Crow (Strange Angels #5)
The electric finale in New York Times bestselling author Lili St. Crow's Strange Angels series!

Nobody expected Dru Anderson to survive this long. Not Graves. Not Christophe. Not even Dru. She's battled killer zombies, jealousdjamphirs, and bloodthirsty suckers straight out of her worst nightmares. But now that Dru has bloomed into a full-fledged svetocha - rare, beautiful, and toxic to all vampires - the worst is yet to come.

Because getting out alive is going to cost more than she's ever imagined. And in the end, is survival really worth the sacrifice?

DRU ANDERSON'S NOT AFRAID OF THE DARK.
BUT SHE SHOULD BE
Top Two Favourite Quotes...
#1 “You can scrub and scrub, but sometimes something doesn't just go away. It . . . it stains you.”

#2And now things were as bad as they could get."
I winced inwardly. You're never supposed to even think that. Because it's just an invtation for the world, Real or otherwise, to throw something even more incredibly f***** up at you.

Memory Lane Monday is back....now this is both a good and bad thing! Good because we once again get to discuss past books that we both love and love to hate. Bad because, well, its Monday...and unfortunately it is my first day back at school since the holidays :'(  With all that being said, it's a new year with lots of exciting things to come! This week, I chose to feature Reckoning by Lili St. Crow so I could "get out," or should I say "rant" about a certain something that continues to haunt me about this last book in the Strange Angels series.

***Major Spoilers Ahead....if you have not yet read Reckoning, DO NOT PROCEED****

For four books prior to Reckoning, I as well as many others, had witnessed the love triangle between our bad ass heroine Dru, the charming and gorgeous Christophe, and, oh yeah, Graves. (Obviously you can tell who I was rooting for :P *No shame!*) I watched Dru flip back and forth between these two boys, and eagerly anticipated the moment when she would finally make her choice-- which of course, HAD TO BE Christophe...it just had to! Flash forward about 290 pages into Reckoning, and I was starting to kind of wonder....when's the epic "I choose you!" scene going to happen?! *sees the thin pile of pages left to read* ...*realizes once again this is the LAST book of the series*....*starts sweating* Seriously, WHEN?!

FINALLY, Dru goes to see how Christophe is doing (after just saying good-bye to Graves) and I start to get giddy....it's going to happen....here it is.....lets do this! *Reads Eagerly* ....*Reaches end of novel*

My face:

^
THAT my dear bookworms, is in no way a happy face.

.....

Dru chose neither of them....NEITHER! Zip! Ziltch!

And so the crying began:

Followed by some "bookworm rage":

How can a series that has for FIVE books, built up this love triangle, end with her choosing no one?! I get enraged just thinking about it....if there was still another book coming out after this one, I would have bowed down to the author....but this being the LAST book in the series, I was left disappointed, angry, upset, and really confused. I was actually a huge fan of this series before reading Reckoning, but now I have a hard time recommending the series because of the way it ends. *shudders* I still think back to this book whenever I'm reading the final instalment in a series....

What did you think about the ending of Reckoning? Team Christophe, Graves, or Person-Who-Liked-Neutral-Ending ?! Please be sure to let me know in the comments below because I'm curious to hear what you guys think! Keep Reading!

Your Y.A. Bookworm,
Caitlin

PS. Sorry for the excessive use of GIFS this week....I usually only use them in times of strong emotion....and let me tell you...this rant definitely qualified
