Memory Lane Monday: The Selection by Kiera Cass

Yes, it is that time of the week. The day we dread and wish would never come- Mondays. *Wipes tear* But have no fear, Memory Lane Monday is here! Every Monday, here at TheYABookworm, I'll do a special post called Memory Lane Monday. What's that you ask? Memory Lane Monday is a once-a-week post where I (or any other bloggers that wish to participate)  choose one book that I've previously read to be featured on that day. From the book chosen, I will pick two of my favourite quotes and write a little blurb containing my quick thoughts on the book. The books that I choose will not be books I've reviewed- since I've read so many books, I want to share with you my opinions on ones that I won't get the chance to fully review (because seriously, rereading dozens of books would take a year...or two)! Be sure to participate by leaving your "Memory Lane Monday" in the comments, or a link to your blog post with the hash-tag #YAMemoryLaneMonday on twitter :D

This Week's Memory Lane Monday...
The Selection By: Kiera Cass
Add To Goodreads
For thirty-five girls, the Selection is the chance of a lifetime. The opportunity to escape the life laid out for them since birth. To be swept up in a world of glittering gowns and priceless jewels. To live in a palace and compete for the heart of gorgeous Prince Maxon.
But for America Singer, being Selected is a nightmare. It means turning her back on her secret love with Aspen, who is a caste below her. Leaving her home to enter a fierce competition for a crown she doesn't want. Living in a palace that is constantly threatened by violent rebel attacks.
Then America meets Prince Maxon. Gradually, she starts to question all the plans she's made for herself--and realizes that the life she's always dreamed of may not compare to a future she never imagined.

Top Two Favourite Quotes...
#1 “. . .true love is usually the most inconvenient kind.”

#2 Mom was bossy. Even in print I could hear her tone, smugly congratulating me on already earning the prince's affections and telling me firmly to keep up whatever I was doing.
Yeah, Mom, I'll just keep telling the prince that he has absolutely no shot with me and offend him as often as I can. Great plan.

With all of the hype going on for the second book in this series by Kiera Cass, The Elite, I thought it was about time I read The Selection! I literally whipped through this book in less than a day, and I can now say I'm a HUGE fan of this series! I'm so glad I only have to wait about a week for book two.

The Selection is a dystopian novel that is very much so a mix between the TV show The Bachelor and The Hunger Games. The idea of 35 young women fighting for the chance to be with Prince Maxon felt like a fictional Bachelor episode--cat fights and jealousy included ;P While the divided groups in society and the idea of names being drawn to determine which 35 women will be chosen to compete brings forth a very Hunger Games vibe. All of this combined with stolen kisses, a hot love triangle and extravagant gowns makes for a very unique and addicting dystopian read!

If you haven't already, I totally recommend you read The Selection! I put off reading it for a while and I totally regret the fact that I kept America, Maxon and Aspen out of my life for this long! You can bet I'll be reading The Elite the moment I get my hands on it-- I'll be sure to do a full review for that one in which I'll talk about my love for both America and the two male leads in depth :D Have you read The Selection? Who is your favourite character? Be sure to let me know in the comments below! Keep Reading!

Caitlin <3
