But whenever she sees Aspen standing guard around the palace, and is overcome with memories of the life they planned to share. With the group narrowed down to the Elite, the other girls are even more determined to win Maxon over—and time is running out for America to decide.

And while she’s struggling to imagine her future, the violent rebels that are determined to overthrow the monarchy are growing stronger and their plans could destroy her chance at any kind of happy ending.
     The Elite is the second novel in The Selection trilogy by Kiera Cass. I had only read The Selection (book one) about a week and a half before reading The Elite and I think I mentioned in my Memory Lane Monday for The Selection, how much I wish I read The Selection sooner. I was so captivated by this Hunger Games meets The Bachelor novel that I could not wait to get my hands on The Elite. Thankfully, my local bookstore had The Elite out on shelves a few days before the release date, and I was able to devour this book in about four and a half hours. I didn't think it was possible, but The Elite was even more addicting than The Selection. The Elite is definitely the kind of book you'll avoid sleep for to continue reading!

     The Elite starts off with only six remaining young females fighting for Prince Maxon's affection. America has found herself in a what can only be described as "So-Many-Emotions" kind of situation. Although America discovers she is developing deeper feeling for Maxon, the appearance of Aspen begins to complicate things. Aspen and her may no longer be together, but his new guard position in front of her bedroom makes her question who she really wants to be with-- a decision she needs to make quickly if she wants any chance with Maxon. If I had only one frustrating thought about The Elite, it would be America's indecisiveness when she's figuring out her feelings for both Maxon and Aspen. She'd be sharing and intimate moment with one guy and then would be kissing another. It got more frustrating when it seemed like America was finally making a decision, but then would run to the other guy the minute something went wrong (or more commonly, when she misinterpreted a conversation or situation). That being, my love for her character did grow tremendously! We really get to see America's feisty, loving and stand-up attitude that you can't help but admire.

     Speaking of Maxon and Aspen, may I say that these two boys are hard to resist! *Starts compulsive but much needed fanning* In some ways, I totally understand America's predicament in choosing between them, but I will say I'm strong supporter of Team Maxon (even though he made some stupid decisions in The Elite) ! Although I believe Aspen really does love America, there's this strong chemistry between Maxon and America that I can't get enough of! I feel like the two of them bring out the best in each other, and I just can't help thinking that America would be the type of Queen to bring real change to the unfair treatment of a majority of the population in this future world. In return, America is able to open Maxon's eyes to the terrible conditions his people deal with and is able to put confidence in Maxon to stand up to his father.....Oh, and their intimate moments are also pretty sweet *Begins fanning again*

     The fast pace of The Elite made it impossible to put down- there was always something exciting or shocking happening (sometimes even both)! I know I personally had to pick up my jaw from the floor a few times from some unexpected curve balls that were thrown into the plot! And the ending, oh my, the ending! I don't know if it can be considered a cliff hanger but it did get me SUPER excited and hopeful for book three, The One! I really loved the way things leave off at the end of The Elite and I'm giddy to see if it continues down that path! I don't know how I'm going to handle a year long wait! *Rocks back in forth in fetal position*

Favourite Quotes...

I sighed. "Actually, Mom, we argue pretty regularly."
"What?" She gaped at me. "Well, stop it!"
"Oh, and I kneed him in the groin once."

~~~~~
"America, there's no question that you've had my heart from the beginning. By now you have to know that."
~~~~~

It wasn’t like I made his world better. It was like I was his world. It wasn’t some explosion; it wasn’t fireworks. It was a fire, burning slowly from the inside out.

Overall...

      Overall, The Elite was an amazing sequel to The Selection! It confirmed my absolute love for this series, making it a series I can't help but recommend to anyone who hasn't read it yet!
