Anna Whitt, the daughter of a guardian angel and a demon, promised herself she’d never do the work of her father—polluting souls. She’d been naive to make such a vow. She’d been naive about a lot of things.
Haunted by demon whisperers, Anna does whatever she can to survive, even if it means embracing her dark side and earning an unwanted reputation as her school’s party girl. Her life has never looked more bleak. And all the while there’s Kaidan Rowe, son of the Duke of Lust, plaguing her heart and mind.
When an unexpected lost message from the angels surfaces, Anna finds herself traveling the globe with Kopano, son of Wrath, in an attempt to gain support of fellow Nephilim and give them hope for the first time. It soon becomes clear that whatever freedoms Anna and the rest of the Neph are hoping to win will not be gained without a fight. Until then, Anna and Kaidan must put aside the issues between them, overcome the steamiest of temptations yet, and face the ultimate question: is loving someone worth risking their life?
      I (as I'm sure many of you) have been eagerly awaiting for the release of Sweet Peril by Wendy Higgins for what feels like forever! When I reviewed Sweet Evil last summer (review link here), I couldn't stop talking about how much I loved Anna, the unique plot and how bloody hot Kaidan Rowe was (there may have been a bit of an emphasis on that last point *blushes* ). Let me just stop the intro right here by saying Sweet Peril heightened my sweet love for this series and *coughs* Kaidan Rowe to crazy, possibly obsessive, levels!

     Based off of the ending of Sweet Evil and the synopsis for Sweet Peril, I went into this book preparing for a love triangle between Anna, Kaidan, and Kaidan's brother Kopano. To a certain extent there was some love triangle drama, but nothing that ever made me question Anna's dedication to Kaidan. Unlike some love triangles where the main heroine goes back and forth between two guys, Anna's heart is always with Kaidan and her consideration of Kopano is like waxing- quick, painful but necessary. Needless to say, although there's always some tension between Kaidan and Kope, I don't think the love-traingle haters out there should be concerned about the direction Sweet Peril takes. The strongest relationship Anna builds with Kopanao is a friendship I hope lasts well into book three. :)

     I can't write this review without pointing out how bad ass Anna is in Sweet Peril! Not only is she embracing her new role as nephilim of substance addiction to keep the demons happy, but I feel like she's a character that actually puts some thought into her actions! Although she prefers to have Kaidan by her side, she proves herself to be an independent character that is more than capable of taking care of herself. The growth she experiences in this book is tremendous and I think readers will be happily surprised to see she is no longer the innocent girl that she was in Sweet Evil!

     I have to admit that I was feeling some serious Kaidan withdrawals up until the point where I reached the half-way point of Sweet Peril. He makes appearances here and there at the beginning that acted as a gigantic tease to us Kaidan lovers, but once he becomes a more permanent character in the plot *sighs* your eyes won't be able to leave the book until the very end. There's two specific chapters that I can't help but rereading over and over and over again! I'm a huge lover of character growth, so I was so happy to see an evident difference between the Kaidan and Anna in Sweet Evil, compared to the Kaidan and Anna in Sweet Peril. There's more than just lust and steamy make-out sessions (although there still plenty of that..plenty ;), but there's a deep love woven between them that is intense, addicting, passionate and of course incredibly sweet. I'm going crazy thinking about where they'll be by the end of the next novel. While we're on the topic of "sexy makeout sessions," I can't help but pointing out that one of the many reasosn I adore this series so much is  how edgy it is for YA. Wendy Higgins really pushes the sexiness as far as she can while still managing to keep it  in the YA category. It creates for scenes that are incredibly hot, but still manage to tease us into wanting so much more!

      Swooniness aside, Sweet Peril proved to me that there's so much potential for this world Wendy Higgins has created. This book did not read like a middle book to a trilogy! It was fast paced and so jam packed with plot that it feels like this series could go on to four or five books (and I'm not just saying that because I'm not at all ready to be finished with this series)!

Favourite Quotes...

“I love you," I whispered.
"I've loved you longer," he said.
^I died....absolutely died! =D

~~~~~
He opened his eyes to reveal the storm within him. "My every instinct is telling me to have my way with you."
~~~~~

“Supposedly Kaidan’s having a difficult time ’cause he can’t say swear words in every sentence,” Marna said with a smile. “He’s determined to find signs for cursing or make some up himself.”

Overall...

     Overall, Sweet Peril was the kind of sequel that I live for! I devoured it in no time at all and am still obsessing over it's pure awesomeness days after finishing it. I highly recommend that if you've read Sweet Evil, you should go out and get your copy of Sweet Peril NOW! And  for those of you who have read Sweet Peril....we've got a long wait ahead of us for Sweet Reckoning! :( Have you read Sweet Peril?
