Memory Lane Monday: Iron Queen by Julie Kagawa

Yes, it is that time of the week. The day we dread and wish would never come- Mondays. *Wipes tear* But have no fear, Memory Lane Monday is here! Every Monday, here at TheYABookworm, I'll do a special post called Memory Lane Monday. What's that you ask? Memory Lane Monday is a once-a-week post where I (or any other bloggers that wish to participate)  choose one book that I've previously read to be featured on that day. From the book chosen, I will pick two of my favourite quotes and write a little blurb containing my quick thoughts on the book. The books that I choose will not be books I've reviewed- since I've read so many books, I want to share with you my opinions on ones that I won't get the chance to fully review (because seriously, rereading dozens of books would take a year...or two)! Be sure to participate by leaving your "Memory Lane Monday" in the comments, or a link to your blog post with the hash-tag #YAMemoryLaneMonday on twitter :D

This week's Memory Lane Monday...
Iron Queen By: Julie Kagawa

My name is Meghan Chase.
I thought it was over. That my time with the fey, the impossible choices I had to make, the sacrifices of those I loved, was behind me. But a storm is approaching, an army of Iron fey that will drag me back, kicking and screaming. Drag me away from the banished prince who's sworn to stand by my side. Drag me into the core of conflict so powerful, I'm not sure anyone can survive it.
This time, there will be no turning back.
Top Two Favourite Quotes...

#1 “You are my heart, my life, my entire existence."

#2  His forehead bumped softly against mine, his brilliant silver gaze searing into me. “I plan to keep you, from everyone, for as long as I’m alive. That includes Puck, the false king, and anyone else who would take you away.” One corner of his mouth quirked, as I struggled to catch my breath under his powerful scrutiny. “I guess I should’ve warned you that I have a slight possessive streak.”

If you follow me on twitter or saw my last post, then you are well aware that this year I will be advocating Ash in the YA Crush Tourney (If you want to join my street team, fill out the form here).  As way of preparing myself for the "battle" ahead against Noah from Pushing The Limits on Friday June 21st, I've been doing some speed rereading to fire up my inner Team Ash fangirl...and I have to say, it didn't take very long for me to start squealing and swooning! I did however notice that The Iron Queen in particular had some of my favourite scenes/lines from the entire series....I'm sure if you've read this book, then you can guess just a few of those parts I'm talking about *starts twitchy winking* ;P

The Iron Queen is really the first time we get to see Ash and Meghan publicly as a couple, and I think this really changes the dynamic of the novel. Both of them are no longer afraid of hiding their feelings and that really builds a strength in them not only individually, but as a couple as well. Their relationship becomes stronger and more intense in more ways than one and I can't even begin to explain how much more attractive "Openly emotional Ash" is!  It's also nice to see Meghan grow in each novel as she is constantly trying to figure out her place in the iron fey world.

Of course, I can't go without expressing my complete bookworm love for both Puck and Grimalkin. One thing this series has always been able to do for me is make me laugh! The comedy is witty, sarcastic and very clever! I don't think this series would be the same without this humorous  bickering and  frequent one liners woven into the both the plot and characters' personalities!

I'll finish off with this-- if you haven't read the Iron Fey series (or The Iron Queen in particular) then you're completely missing out! It took me longer then it should have to give these books a shot, but once I did, I never looked back! Faeries have never been so badass! Have you read The Iron Queen? Who's your favourite character? Be sure to let me know in the comments below! Keep Reading!

Your Y.A. Bookworm,
Caitlin <3
