{Blog Tour} In Stone: First Impression

In Stone
Author: Louise D. Gornall
Publisher and Imprint: Entranced Publishing, Blush
Genre: YA paranormal romance
Pages: 120 pages

Beau Bailey is suffering from a post-break-up meltdown when she happens across a knife in her local park and takes it home. Less than a week later, the new boy in school has her trapped in an alley; he’s sprouted horns and is going to kill Beau unless she hands over the knife.
Until Eighteenth-century gargoyle, Jack, shows up to save her.
Jack has woken from a century-long slumber to tell Beau that she’s unwittingly been drafted into a power struggle between two immortal races: Demons and Gargoyles. The knife is the only one in existence capable of killing immortals and they’ll tear the world apart to get it back. To draw the warring immortals away from her home, Beau goes with Jack in search of the mind-bending realm known as the Underworld, a place where they’ll hopefully be able to destroy the knife and prevent all hell from breaking loose. That is, provided they can outrun the demons chasing them.

{First Impression of In Stone}
Hello bookworms! I'm so excited to be part of the blog tour for In Stone! As part of my tour stop, I thought I would give you guys my first impression of the novel based of the first two chapters of In Stone :) Hope you enjoy...*Warning: Do not read if you do not wish to know what happens in the first two chapters :P*

Chapter 1:
Wow, talk about starting with a bang! The novel opens up with our protagonist, Beau, lying down outside, mourning the break-up with her ex-boyfriend Mark. All of a sudden she finds a body with a knife stabbed into his side. At first she assumes the man is dead until his eyes suddenly open and he snatches Beau's hand before she can run away. The strange man orders Beau to take and hide the knife where no one can find it and informs her that he is a Gargoyle who's job is to protect her. Beau obviously thinks the man is some kind of a lunatic and the chapter ends with her running away with the knife in hand.

There were many things that stood out in this first chapter-- one, who and what is the man? How does he know Beau and who stabbed him? Second is that I absolutely loved how fast we are thrown into the action. The chapter immediately has you asking many questions that encourage you to continue reading! Thirdly, I love seeing a little bit of sarcastic humour coming from Beau! I'm definitely looking forward to reading more about her :)

Chapter 2:
The fast pace continues in chapter two. Beau is now in the safety of her room and looks out to find the man she's run away from being killed by a tall figure she assumes is the person she's supposed to hide the knife from. The chapter goes on to explain that Beau's dad has been out of the picture for the past ten years and carries on to describe the town, Plumbridge, with some detail. Beau decides to go to the police station to give them the knife for evidence, but suddenly starts questioning the events that occurred the night before once she hands it in.

Once again I love how quickly the novel is getting into the plot. Not as many dramatic events occur in chapter two but we definitely get to find out a bit more background on our protagonist (which I always enjoy). I still have lots of questions-- added to the list are: Who is the man that killed the guy we met in chapter one? What's the significance of that knife?

Overall...
So far, I am very intrigued by In Stone and it looks quite promising! The chapters are fairly short, and based off of the size of the novel, I assume it's going to be a quick read.  I can't wait to continue reading and discovering the answers to all of the many questions I already have.  Full review will definitely be coming soon!
