Memory Lane Monday: Altered by Jennifer Rush

Yes, it is that time of the week. The day we dread and wish would never come- Mondays. *Wipes tear* But have no fear, Memory Lane Monday is here! Every Monday, here at TheYABookworm, I'll do a special post called Memory Lane Monday. What's that you ask? Memory Lane Monday is a once-a-week post where I (or any other bloggers that wish to participate)  choose one book that I've previously read to be featured on that day. From the book chosen, I will pick two of my favourite quotes and write a little blurb containing my quick thoughts on the book. The books that I choose will not be books I've reviewed- since I've read so many books, I want to share with you my opinions on ones that I won't get the chance to fully review (because seriously, rereading dozens of books would take a year...or two)! Be sure to participate by leaving your "Memory Lane Monday" in the comments, or a link to your blog post with the hash-tag #YAMemoryLaneMonday on twitter :D

This Week's Memory Lane Monday..
Altered By: Jennifer Rush

When you can’t trust yourself, who can you believe?
Everything about Anna’s life is a secret. Her father works for the Branch at the helm of its latest project: monitoring and administering treatments to the four genetically altered boys in the lab below their farmhouse. There’s Nick, Cas, Trev . . . and Sam, who’s stolen Anna’s heart. When the Branch decides it’s time to take the boys, Sam stages an escape, killing the agents sent to retrieve them.
Anna is torn between following Sam or staying behind in the safety of her everyday life. But her father pushes her to flee, making Sam promise to keep her away from the Branch, at all costs. There’s just one problem. Sam and the boys don’t remember anything before living in the lab—not even their true identities.
Now on the run, Anna soon discovers that she and Sam are connected in more ways than either of them expected. And if they’re both going to survive, they must piece together the clues of their past before the Branch catches up to them and steals it all away.

Top Two Favourite Quotes...
#1 I pulled away. He stopped me with a hand on my wrist. “Wait,” he said. “I know what you’re thinking.”
“What?”
“It’s written all over your face.” He pushed a lock of hair out of my eyes. “I’m not going anywhere.”

#2 “You lost your shirt, Sam?"
“Anna was looking over the tattoo.”
“Yeah.” Nick grunted. “It looked like it.”

I've been putting off reading Altered by Jennifer Rush for a while now. This had nothing to do with a lack of desire to read the book but rather because I had a feeling I'd end up reallly liking it. It may seem like a silly reason to postpone a novel (a crazy one actually) but at the moment I am in a state of unbearable anticipation as I wait for the many August releases that I NEED to have. Knowing I'd have to wait until January for the sequel to Altered, Erased, made me want to hold-off so I wouldn't be experiencing this amount of pain (again)! However, I unsurprisingly caved and spent a day devouring this one! I was right....I absolutely loved Altered.

Seeing as this is a Memory Lane Monday, I'm going to keep it short and focus on the highlight of this novel-- the dynamic between Nick, Cas, Trev, Sam and Anna.....especially Sam and Anna ;) Some of the funniest, most action packed and feel good moments came from scenes in which the boys and Anna were in together. Each boy brought a different personality (and incredibly hot looks) to the group, and apart form Sam, Cas had to be my favourite because he was just such a funny and playful character! The enjoyable characters, in addition to the slow, intense building romance and some jaw dropping twists (specifically towards the end of the novel) make Altered a captivating YA read!

Altered doesn't really end in a cliffhanger that will make you go insane (which I am thankful for because January is already seeming far, far away). However that doesn't mean I am not anxious to get my hands on Erased as soon as I can! Have you read Altered? Who's your favourite male in this group of hotties (Tough choice, I know!)? Be sure to let me know in the comments below! Keep Reading!
