Memory Lane Monday: Ten Tiny Breaths by K.A. Tucker

Yes, it is that time of the week. The day we dread and wish would never come- Mondays. *Wipes tear* But have no fear, Memory Lane Monday is here! Every Monday, here at TheYABookworm, I'll do a special post called Memory Lane Monday. What's that you ask? Memory Lane Monday is a once-a-week post where I (or any other bloggers that wish to participate)  choose one book that I've previously read to be featured on that day. From the book chosen, I will pick two of my favourite quotes and write a little blurb containing my quick thoughts on the book. The books that I choose will not be books I've reviewed- since I've read so many books, I want to share with you my opinions on ones that I won't get the chance to fully review (because seriously, rereading dozens of books would take a year...or two)! Be sure to participate by leaving your "Memory Lane Monday" in the comments, or a link to your blog post with the hash-tag #YAMemoryLaneMonday on twitter :D

This Week's Memory Lane Monday...
Ten Tiny Breaths By: K.A. Tucker
Please note: Ten Tiny Breaths is a NEW ADULT novel, not YA.

A copy was provided in exchange for review.

Kacey Cleary’s whole life imploded four years ago in a drunk-driving accident. Now she’s working hard to bury the pieces left behind—all but one. Her little sister, Livie. Kacey can swallow the constant disapproval from her born-again aunt Darla over her self-destructive lifestyle; she can stop herself from going kick-boxer crazy on Uncle Raymond when he loses the girls’ college funds at a blackjack table. She just needs to keep it together until Livie is no longer a minor, and then they can get the hell out of Grand Rapids, Michigan.
But when Uncle Raymond slides into bed next to Livie one night, Kacey decides it’s time to run. Armed with two bus tickets and dreams of living near the coast, Kacey and Livie start their new lives in a Miami apartment complex, complete with a grumpy landlord, a pervert upstairs, and a neighbor with a stage name perfectly matched to her chosen “profession.” But Kacey’s not worried. She can handle all of them. What she can’t handle is Trent Emerson in apartment 1D.
Kacey doesn’t want to feel. She doesn’t. It’s safer that way. For everyone. But sexy Trent finds a way into her numb heart, reigniting her ability to love again. She starts to believe that maybe she can leave the past where it belongs and start over. Maybe she’s not beyond repair.
But Kacey isn’t the only one who’s broken. Seemingly perfect Trent has an unforgiveable past of his own; one that, when discovered, will shatter Kacey’s newly constructed life and send her back into suffocating darkness.
Top Two Favourite Quotes...
#1 “I don't hate you. I could never hate you. Give me your heart, Kacey. I'll take everything that comes with it.”

#2 “What’s wrong is that every morning and every night, I lie in bed wondering why you’re not beside me.”

Although Ten Tiny Breath just recently came out in paperback, it has been out for quite some time in ebook format so I thought featuring it as my Memory Lane Monday this week would still be suitable.  I have been on a bit of a New Adult craze lately. There's something about the genre that has been pulling me in and I just can't seem to get enough of it.  Now, this is probably because a majority of the NA I've been reading are contemporary novels with large focuses on romance, but nonetheless, I have become an addict. When Ten Tiny Breaths appeared in my mailbox, I was all over it! Based off of the reviews, I was expecting a very good read and that's exactly what I got! The unique thing about Ten Tiny Breaths is the fact that it's not only a romance, but it is also a book centered around getting over the past, forgiveness, healing and moving forward.

Ten Tiny Breaths is a love story that sneakily hooks you in and then tears your world apart. I became so attached to Kacey and Trent as a couple that it hit me really hard when a certain discovery leads you to wondering how the two of these broken characters could possibly have a healthy relationship! It's one of the few times where I completely understood how something could threaten a relationship as strong (and swoony) as Kacey and Trent's. Most of the time the climax of these contemporary novels are caused by a misunderstanding or lack of communication, but Ten Tiny Breaths reveals a real shocker that makes you question if a happily ever after could ever be possible for the two of these lovable characters.

It's been a couple months since I've read Ten Tiny Breaths and I still find myself reflecting back on it's great characters and emotional story-line. I was so happy to find out that the second novel, One Tiny Lie, would be focused on Kacey's little sister Livie. The bond these two have as sisters is remarkable and seeing as Livie has such a different kind of personality than Kacey, I was intrigued  I ended up really loving her story (I may have even liked it more than Ten Tiny Breaths ;) !! My review for One Tiny Lie will be up closer to its paperback release but until then, be sure to let me know your thoughts on Ten Tiny Breaths in the comments below! Keep Reading!
