Sentinel By: Jennifer L. Armentrout Review

It's a beautiful day for a war.
As the mortal world slowly slips into chaos of the godly kind, Alexandria Andros must overcome a stunning defeat that has left her shaken and in doubt of their ability to end this war once and for all.
And with all the obstacles between Alex and her happily-ever-after with the swoonworthy Aiden St. Delphi, they must now trust a deadly foe as they travel deep into the Underworld to release one of the most dangerous gods of all time.
In the stunning, action-packed climax to the bestselling Covenant series, Alex must face a terrible choice: the destruction of everything and everyone she holds dear… or the end of herself.

     Before I get into the review, I just want to say a big thank-you to Spencer Hill Press for including a snippet of my Apollyon review in the "Praise" section of Sentinel-- this is my first time ever physically having my words in a print novel, so I was over the moon excited when I saw this surprise in one of my absolute favourite series! A picture of my mention can be seen further down in the review :)

     Sentinel definitely made my list of most anticipated 2013 releases! I was so excited to get back to these characters I've grown to adore but at the same time, I was hoping the day wouldn't arrive so I wouldn't ever have to say farewell to my Covenant family. Although I don't think I'd consider Sentinel to be my favourite book from the series (Apollyon has my vote there), I wasn't at all disappointed with it; I'm actually quite happy with the way Jennifer ended off this series!

     After being broken apart (quite literally) by Ares, Alex, Aiden, Seth and the gang are determined to defeat Ares once and for all.....if only it were that easy. To have any chance at winning against Ares, Alex and Aidan must travel to the underworld to release Perses, the Titan god of destruction who thrives on the bloodshed of battle. Releasing Perses may be their only option, but Alex can't help wondering whether releasing him will cause them more problems then they had before.

     One of the Covenant series most addicting qualities is its comedic theme. All of the characters have a unique personality and wit to them that give them each a rare ability to make me laugh-- making me love them even more! This is especially true with secondary characters like Deacon and Apollo who add something so unique to this series compared to many other YA reads. Somehow, Apollo and Deacon always seem to pop up at the "worst" times (usually, frustratingly so, at the start of some steamy Alex and Aiden scenes. ;) and I'm always unsure as to whether I want to lock them in a room or hug them to death because of their ability to make me giggle whenever they're around! They're those kinds characters you love to pretend to hate because their "annoying" (AKA, HILARIOUS), but don't really hate at all :P ....Confusing description, but oh so true !

     Alex and Aiden are honestly one of those super couples that are hard to come by. They're both independently tough and able to kick anybody's ass, but together they are a force to be reckoned with. Almost all of my favourite covenant scenes are from those in which Aiden and Alex lean on and completely open up to one another. When I think back to the two of them from Half Blood and compare them to the people they are now, they're relationship has made them stronger, mature and more vulnerable in the best way possible (I always enjoy looking back and examining how far characters have come since first "meeting" them). Throughout these past 5 novels, they've made me swoon more times than I can count and thankfully, Sentinel continued this beautiful pattern-- there's plenty of new swoony material  in Senintel that we'll be able to look back on when we need our Aiden and Alex fix....

     Jennifer L. Armentrout almost made me have a heart attack with the way she chose to end Sentinel. I have just recently finished reading Allegiant and I almost felt it was going to be a horrific repeat (and can I just say, Allegiant has scarred me and  made me skeptical of any "series concluding" novels)! Thankfully (I do mean, THANKFULLY), I can say that the way the Covenant series ended has left me completely satisfied and hopeful that someday, somehow this won't be the end of Alex and Aiden. Despite my hopes, Alex and Aiden definitely got the ending they deserved.

Favourite Quotes...

Vegas.
I was in Vegas with a Titan who needed to get drunk and laid.

~~~~~
As we walked toward the dean's office, he reached over, trailing his fingers along my arm. "Do they still react when I touch you?"
Heat crawled through my veins, and I nodded. The marks had followed the path of his touch. "Yeah, they still like you."
One side of his lips curled up, and a look of male pride crossed his face. I shook my head. Boys.
~~~~~

Her eyes narrowed, and then her hand snaked out again. I forced myself to stand still and let her feel me up, because seriously, she didn't appear like she was going to stop until she did. She cupped my cheek and placed her other hand below my breasts, between my rips.

"Umm..." I was really starting to feel wigged out. "I really hope this has a point, because half the guys are staring at us like they're hoping we're going to make-out."

Aiden coughed.

Overall...
     Overall, Sentinel ended in typical covenant style with epic battles, lovable and witty characters and heart stopping romance. I'm sad to see this series end but I'm happy with the way that it did! Although this is the last Covenant novel, I could totally see how the series could go on either by continuing a journey with Alex and Aiden, or through some other characters-- there seems to be a lot of different story-lines that could be told due to the largeness of the covenant world. Have you read Sentinel? Are you happy with the ending? What series will you be reading to help ease the pain of the ending of this one? Be sure to let me know in the comments below! Keep Reading!

    Great review too! I cannot wait to read this one! It still has yet to ships since I ordered a few books in the same order and not sure if they are all ready yet. Should hopefully ship soon!

    Glad to hear the ending was satisfying! Totally understand what you mean with Allegiant and it kind of freaks me out as well. But it is what it is!
