The Fiery Heart By: Richelle Mead Review

The Fiery Heart
Author: Richelle Mead
Publisher: Razorbill
Pages: 438
Rating: 4/5
In The Indigo Spell, Sydney was torn between the Alchemist way of life and what her heart and gut were telling her to do. And in one breathtaking moment that Richelle Mead fans will never forget, she made a decision that shocked even her. . . .
But the struggle isn't over for Sydney. As she navigates the aftermath of her life-changing decision, she still finds herself pulled in too many directions at once. Her sister Zoe has arrived, and while Sydney longs to grow closer to her, there's still so much she must keep secret. Working with Marcus has changed the way she views the Alchemists, and Sydney must tread a careful path as she harnesses her profound magical ability to undermine the way of life she was raised to defend. Consumed by passion and vengeance, Sydney struggles to keep her secret life under wraps as the threat of exposure—and re-education—looms larger than ever.
Pulses will race throughout this thrilling fourth installment in the New York Times bestselling Bloodlines series, where no secret is safe.

     The Fiery Heart lives up to its name in more ways than one! Everything I love about the Bloodlines world-- the tension, intensity, sexiness and humour--is heightened! The Fiery Heart is most definitely my favourite Bloodlines novel yet!

     With the entrance of Sydney's sister Zoe, keeping her relationship with Adrian a secret, hiding her new feelings towards vampires and keeping her experiments with magic and spirit hush hush prove to be harder (and riskier) than ever. Not only does Sydney have to constantly come up with excuses as to where she's spending her time, but Zoe acts as a direct link back to their father and will report anything if she becomes suspicious.....Zoe was one of those characters where I just knew, I just knew that she was going to cause a ton of problems. She's got a brattiness to her that made me cringe and her involvement in Sydney's downfall made me hate her even more.

     I LOVED seeing more interactions between characters from VA with characters from Bloodlines. Rose, Dimitri, Lissa, Christian and more all pop up and play a little involvement in the overall plot. In addition to seeing some blasts from the past, other characters and relationship drama among Adrian and Sydney's group of friends added a sense of chaos to the plot because there were so many things happening between them all behind the scenes of the main story-line. I wish we saw more of these characters because I found their story-lines very interesting. Of course, it goes without saying that The Fiery Heart continued to have that witty, dry and sarcastic humour that makes this series so unique!

     One thing I made sure to avoid before reading The Fiery Heart was the six book trailers that were put out leading up to its release. If you've read my review for Indigo Spell, then you know that those trailers really ruined a lot of the Syndrian moments for me because I couldn't get the cheesy acting out of my head. Luckily I managed to resist the temptation of watching those trailers, and I have to say, after watching all six of them prior to finishing The Fiery Heart, I'm so glad I did! Sydney and Adrian FINALLY reach a point where we can actually say they're in a relationship. They're completely opposite individuals, but their chemistry bring out some of the best qualities in one another. Their steamy scenes are, well, steamier (some may even say, fiery....see what I did there? ;) and they face obstacles that test their relationship that they have to manage to overcome. For those who love Sydrian, you'll especially love The Fiery Heart because this novel has a large focus on developing their relationship. If you've read the VA series, then the best way I can put it is The Fiery Heart is like Shadow Kiss (Vampire Academy #3) of Bloodlines.

     The ending! Oh the ending! The Fiery Heart has one of those endings that you definitely see coming miles away, yet the pain of it actually playing out does not lessen in the very least. There were a few times where I just had to shake my head and "say" to the characters, "oh no...this can't be good." There was one moment in particular where I just knew that it would lead to shit hitting the fan and my inkling turned out to be correct--excuse this mental image but shit literally flew everywhere!! The very last line of the novel said by Sydney sent this shiver down my body that immediately began an ache within me for book five.....why oh why is July 2014 so far away?!

Favourite Quotes...

"Aren't you failing English?"
Angeline flushed. "It's not my fault."
"Even I know you can't write and entry on Wikipedia and then use it as a source in your essay." Sydney had been torn with horror and hysterics when she told me.

~~~~~~
“Relax, having kids is years away. But can you imagine? Your brains, my charm, our collective good looks... then add in the usual physical abilities dhampirs get. " She looked more amused than appalled at the speculation, which was something I'd never thought I'd see.
"It's really not even fair to everyone else. Good thing you're on birth control, since the world obviously isn't ready for our perfect offspring
Overall...
     Overall, The Fiery Heart is an instalment fans will sure sink their teeth into! The individual and relationship character growth, combined with comedy, forbidden romance and an ending that is sure to leave an impact, made the Fiery Heart absolutely delicious. Silver Shadows (Bloodlines #5) is set to release July 29th, 2014 and I have no doubt bookworms will be counting down the days until then. Have you read Fiery Heart? What did you think about the ending? Be sure to let me know in the comments below! Keep Reading!
  1. OOh nice review! Haven't read this one yet as I am still in my "ebook" challenge and this is definitely one that I own as a real book. But seriously on December 1 or whatever this will be the first book I read! Followed by Sentinel! ;)
    I recall hearing that this one was going to have a killer cliffhanger. Was kind of surprised that it wasn't in the last one as in VA #3 we had that whopper of one! Of course book 4 had an even bigger cliffhanger so I guess that is where this one might fall! And July 29?! Not even early July or late June, but end of July?! Holy crappers it's going to be an agonizingly long summer!
    Again, great review!!
