In an instant everything changes for seventeen-year-old Cassie Moore. Together she and her time-traveling boyfriend, Trent Astor, battle to survive their next impossible challenge. As they navigate through a third parallel world in which Cassie begged Trent to create for her, the two soon discover that no world can be made perfect.
And while they fight through their new circumstances, the universe may just have its own agenda for them both.
Meanwhile, it seems Trent and his sister, Lorelai, will never be safe from the greedy world and its hunger for Trent's power. A new force threatens to destroy the anonymity Trent has fought for his entire life unless he can stop this new opposition first. But every choice has a consequence, and Trent is faced with the most difficult choice of his life.
Set in contemporary Northern California, The Vortex Series is a teen romance for those who also enjoy a bit of science fiction and fantasy. Told in two perspectives, we get an intimate view of both Cassie and Trent’s worlds. Family relationships, how they interconnect and drive our personalities, is the heart and soul of this YA time traveling novel.

Deuce is the third and final novel in the Vortex Series by Janine Caldwell.  I've been waiting for a very long time to see the way Trent and Cassie's story would end and now that I have, I'm a little sad to see them go.  Rematch was the first book I ever received to review and since then, the series has always held a special place in my heart....it has an uncommon time traveling core and characters I couldn't help but connect to.

The big "OMG" cliffhanger at the end of Double Fault with Cassie making a jump back in time arose a lot of questions going into Deuce.  Why is Cassie jumping when this is something only Trent has been able to do?  How will she keep her long absences hidden from her parents?  Both the jumps themselves and the repercussions she has to deal with after them bring forth lots of chaos.  Cassie's parents become a huge roadblock between Trent and Cassie, and Cassie now has to come to terms with the fact that jumping back in time is part of her life now.

The foundation of this time traveling series is Cassie and Trent's relationship.  They are sweet, affectionate, and 100 percent devoted to one another-- it is their love story that keeps you so connected to the series.  However, the direction their relationship took in Deuce was not at all something I was expecting....it wasn't necessarily a bad surprise, but it definitely pushed their relationship to a place/level I never thought I'd see in Deuce (especially since we see them face similar issues that they had in books one and two that I thought should have been completely resolved by now).  In addition, Cassie's parents' interference with Trent and Cassie's relationship was very frustrating and made me wish they would have somehow been informed on what was going on so we could have avoided so much parental drama.....

I've said it before, and I'll say it again, Lorelei is one of my favourite characters of the series.  She's got this spunk to her, while still also having insecurities.  The brief glimpses we get to see of her relationship with Nate made me love her even more and wish she had a series of her own.  It's my love for this character that made Lorelei's fate such a difficult pill to swallow.

Overall, I enjoyed this last book to the Vortex series despite the fact I was saddened with the way one of the plot points turned out.  That being said, I'd recommend this series to anyone out there looking for something unique....I haven't read many time-traveling books in YA and that's what makes the Vortex series stand out so much.  Have you read Deuce?  What are some of your favourite time traveling novels?  Be sure to let me know in the comments below! Keep Reading!
