The poverty stricken Reds are commoners, living under the rule of the Silvers, elite warriors with god-like powers.
To Mare Barrow, a 17-year-old Red girl from The Stilts, it looks like nothing will ever change.
Mare finds herself working in the Silver Palace, at the centre ofthose she hates the most. She quickly discovers that, despite her red blood, she possesses a deadly power of her own. One that threatens to destroy Silver control.
But power is a dangerous game. And in this world divided by blood, who will win?

{Review}

     Red Queen was the first book I read in 2015 and let me just say, what a great way to start the year!  I'm sure you've all heard a lot about this book on social media but I'm delighted to report that in my opinion, this book is deserving of the hype (and more)!  Victoria Aveyard did an incredible job at weaving together elements of dystopia, fantasy, romance, and politics into a truly spotlight-worthy read.

     In this world, there are two classes of people: the Red and the Silver.  Those who are "Red" live in poverty and are used as soldiers in the ongoing rebellion war.  Those who are "Silver" have all the control and possess special powers....well, that is, until a Red girl named Mare discovers she's got some powers of her own! *inserts gasp here*  Needless to say, the Silver King is NOT happy about Mare's powers so, in an attempt to keep her Red identity hidden, Mare is forced into a new life as a Silver royal.

    There's nothing I love better than a strong heroine and Mare Barrow is definitely one of those!  She's loyal, puts her family first, and is determined to spark change despite the risks that will come along with it.  I also really admired her raw toughness...it was clear that life in the streets played a part in developing this unique edge  to her character.

     My favourite part of this novel would definitely have to be the presence of royalty and politics within the plot.  It created an environment filled with betrayal and corruption....I didn't know who to trust and I couldn't get enough of it!  Throw in a love triangle into the drama and the result was one happy bookworm....what can I say, princes do swoony things to me ;)

Overall...
     Overall, I think Red Queen was a stunning debut and my favourite read of 2015 so far.  It combined the best of all literary elements into a novel that brought out "all the feels!"  I'm eager to have book two in my hands ASAP!!  Are you excited to read Red Queen?  Do princes do swoony things to you too? Be sure to let me know in the comments below! Keep Reading!

Your Y.A. Bookworm,
Caitlin <3
