Origin By: Jennifer L. Armentrout Review

Origin (Lux #4)
Author: Jennifer L. Armentrout
Publisher: Entangled Teen
Pages: 364
Rating: 5/5
Daemon will do anything to get Katy back.
After the successful but disastrous raid on Mount Weather, he’s facing the impossible. Katy is gone. Taken. Everything becomes about finding her. Taking out anyone who stands in his way? Done. Burning down the whole world to save her? Gladly. Exposing his alien race to the world? With pleasure.
All Katy can do is survive.
Surrounded by enemies, the only way she can come out of this is to adapt. After all, there are sides of Daedalus that don’t seem entirely crazy, but the group’s goals are frightening and the truths they speak even more disturbing. Who are the real bad guys? Daedalus? Mankind? Or the Luxen?
Together, they can face anything.
But the most dangerous foe has been there all along, and when the truths are exposed and the lies come crumbling down, which side will Daemon and Katy be standing on?
And will they even be together?

     I'm writing this review after just finishing Origin in the span of less than ten hours and I'm absolutely speechless. There are so many things my brain is trying to process right now but I know that if I don't get my thoughts down right away, I won't be able to convey the grandness of it all! This is my first time reading a Lux novel for the first time in paperback and if you could see my copy right now, you'd see TONS of dog-eared pages (I know, don't hate me) that are marking pivotal scenes that either had my jaw-dropping or my inner romantic swooning....sometimes even both! If your a Lux fan you need to drop what your reading and immediately start Origin-- be prepared for a thrilling ride and book you won't be able to put down!

     Origin has a very different feel and vibe to it than any of the previous Lux novels. Katy has been taken in by  Daedalus and Daemon is determined to find and save her-- no matter what the cost. Daemon's journey to join Katy's side doesn't last to long, but once they are together, things get absolutely cray-cray! While Deamon and Katy are struggling to find a way to escape, they in the mean time have no choice but to suffer through test after test that the Daedalus is using to help figure out how they can use Daemon and Katy in their quest to create a super-being called Origins. This whole novel has a darkness to it that wasn't as present in the first three installments ..there's lots of action, intensity, traumatic experiences, desperate measures, betrayal and even death itself. My emotions were on high-alert every single page!

     Although I consider Origin the darkest Lux novel, I also thought it was the most romantic one. The events both Daemon and Katy (especially Katy) go though during their brief separation puts certain things into perspective for them, and as a result, they end up coming together as a couple that is stronger than ever. Although Daemon is still, well, Daemon, the two of them are so worried about the future (or more importantly, the possibility of a lack of one)  that they are even more affectionate and loving than before. They are near each other constantly and make a point of not wasting any of their time together, and with that brings their relationship to a completely new level that is even more swoony and exhilarating! There is a certain event that happens between the two of them that I was not expecting at all but leave it to Jennifer L. Armentrout to know what we want before we even know it....I was a squealing disaster!! I'm so excited to see what could possibly be next for them in the final Lux novel!!!

     When I found out Origin would be told in the perspective of both Katy AND Daemon, I was over-the-moon excited for obvious reasons (I mean, who wouldn't be all over getting a glimpse into Daemon Black's sexy mind?!). However once I started getting into the novel, I saw how necessary it was to read from a perspective other than Katy's--- especially at the beginning of the novel where she is mostly unconscious  As the novel progresses the dual POVs allows for a more complete reading experience that makes it possible for us as the reader to know information that sometimes either Katy or Daemon don't even know. Although I liked the fact that Daemon remained a mysterious character in all of the first three books, reading from his perspective in Origin and really "seeing" how deeply he feels for Katy made me fall in love with him even more!

     I'm positive I've mentioned this before in my Lux novel reviews but one of the best parts about this novel (aside from Daemon in a towel or *cough* Daemon in no towel *cough cough* ;) is the spontaneous flares of dry humour, randomness and sarcasm. There's a lot of witty characters in Origin that added some comedic relief during some holy-poop-your-pants intense situations. I can't write this review without also mentioning how much I love the fact that JLA finds ways to creatively sneak-in references to some popular novels and movies in Origin. She's done it before in the previous novels, but oh my goodness, the Sweet Evil by Wendy Higgins reference made me stop reading and have a little laughing fit! It was hilarious! As a HUGE Anna and Kaidan fan, I was having  bit of a moment when I saw their names pop up in a novel like Origin that I love just as much as Sweet Evil!

     I think it's important not to forget the other members of Daemon's family! We do still see Dee and a possible new love interest for her, but what I found the most interesting (especially if you've read Shadows) was getting some good insight into Dawson and Beth's current relationship. The trauma Beth has experienced does leave her emotionally scarred, however it's impossible not to notice how adorable Dawson and Beth are together! The few scenes with the two of them in it make me really interested in reading another novella focused on this couple during the months Daemon and Katy are away....especially after a particular revelation ;)

Favourite Quotes...
This is always a tortuous task when it comes to anything by JLA ....

"I would've rather stabbed myself repeatedly in the eye with a spork than sleep in the same house as Daemon."
"A spork?" Dee laughed as she went to the closet. "That's serious."
"It is." I sat on the bed and immediately fell in love with the firmness. "Sporks are only used in the most dire situations."

~~~~~
"I'm not most guys." I tugged her over so she was sitting in my lap. "Haven't you figured that out yet?"
She dropped her hands to my shoulders. "I'm a little slow sometimes."
I laughed, and she responded with a smile. "Good thing I don't like you for your brains."
~~~~~

"Prometheus is Greek," Kat said. "Well, he was a Titan. In mythology, he created man."
A flash of amusement flickered in my eyes.
She shrugged. "It was in a paranormal book I read once."
I couldn't hold back a small grin. Her and her nerdy reading habits. Made me want to kiss her and do other stuff....

Overall...
     Overall, Origin was an irresistible, emotionally cruel novel that I devoured and oh so loved! Bravo....bravo *applauds*! Be warned because, although not as tortuous as Opal's ending, there are a few surprises revealed within the last final pages that make the wait for book five not too fun. Luckily for us,  there is plenty of drool-worthy material in Origin that I myself will be re-reading and re-reading until the release of Opposition (Lux #5) in 2014! Have you read Origin? How many times did your heart race while reading? Be sure to let me know in the comments below! Keep Reading!
