Sadie White's summer job isn't going to be on the beach life-guarding or working at rental booths like most kids her age. With her single mother's increasing pregnancy and refusal to work, Sadie has to take over her mother's job as a domestic servant for one of the wealthy summer families on a nearby island.
When the family arrives at their summer getaway, Sadie is surprised to learn that the owner of the house is Jax Stone, one of the hottest teen rockers in the world. If Sadie hadn't spent her life raising her mother and taking care of the house she might have been normal enough to be excited about working for a rock star.
Even though Sadie isn't impressed by Jax's fame, he is drawn to her. Everything about Sadie fascinates Jax but he fights his attraction. Relationship's never work in his world and as badly as he wants Sadie, he believes she deserves more.
By the end of the summer, Jax discovers he can't breathe without Sadie.

Breathe is the first book in author Abbi Glines' Sea Breeze series. I'm just going to warn you right now that I am currently in a major "Glines Spree"- so expect quite a few book reviews from this author. Some of you may recognize Abbi Glines as being the author from the Existence trilogy, (another great series you should all check out)! Breathe was an absolutely romantic and addicting read that you should all be reading this summer.

The main character, Sadie, has a very different home life than anyone else her age. Not only is her mother pregnant again with the father nowhere insight, but it is also now Sadie's responsibility to get a job to pay for the bills. Sadie's character was immediately likeable- from the very beginning of the book you can't help but feel sympathetic for her. Although I sometimes felt she jumped to conclusions to easily, her character for the most part was a pleasure to read through.

Now....to the best part of the book....the romance! The relationship between Sadie and Jax was completely addicting, mesmerizing, sweet, hot....I could go on.....Their connection sparked immediately once they met, and it just continued to blossom throughout the course of the book. Their hot attraction for one another acted as a fuel to my eyes that just kept me reading until the very last page. Jax's character was also a really great male lead! He at times reminded me of Dank from the Existence trilogy because of their similar musical assets- who doesn't love a guy who can play the guitar? All in all, I was incredibly disappointed once I realized I wouldn't get to read more about Sadie and Jax- it's times like these where you almost wish there was a "10 years later" so you could get a glimpse into how their life turns out....sigh

The overall plot of the story was really neat to read. The "brick wall" in Sadie and Jax's relationship was unlike anything else I've ever read. With Jax being a heartthrob musician that is constantly in the spotlight, Sadie's involvement in Jax's life could greatly change her's. This huge dilemma added even more suspense to the book- I absolutely loved every minute of it!

Favourite Quotes...

“If hearts could shatter, mine just did.”

His lip touched my ear. "I want to hold you, kiss you, and enjoy you in this dress right here in this room all night, but I can't"I shivered."Please don't shiver. It does something to me," he said against my ear again.

"He seems like a man who knows what he wants, and the problem is he wants what I want. If it were anything or anyone else, I could stand back and let him take it." His blue eyes gazed back at me. "But I can't let him have you."

Overall...

Overall Breathe is the perfect romantic summer read to anyone and everyone who loves light, addicting stories. This is definitely a book that will leave you breathless. Luckily the second book in the Sea Breeze series is already out, ready to pull you into another hot read. The second book, Because of Low, focuses on a secondary character from Breathe (Marcus). Look out for my review on Because of Low very soon- I've already read it and let me tell you...its hot! Have you read Breathe?! Are you a fan of Abbi Glines?
