This is a pretty special Feature and Follow Friday because The Y.A. Bookworm Blogger is being featured this week [inserts squealing] !!! Thank-you to Parajunkee for featuring me and congratulations to Carmen who is being featured on Allison Can Read =)
{My Feature Answers}
1. When did you start blogging?
I started my blog on January 4, 2012 :)
2. What is your favorite part of book blogging?
My favourite part about book blogging would definitely have to be being able to connect with my readers. I just love the idea that one of my reviews might introduce someone to a fabulous read that they never would have picked up before!
3. What is your favorite book(s)?
City of Bones By: Cassandra Clare
Vampire Academy By: Richelle Mead
Obsidian By: Jennifer L. Armentrout
Blue Bloods By: Melissa de la Cruz
.....the list goes on !
4. What has been the best thing that has happened to you because of book blogging?
There have been so many great things that have come from book blogging, but I think the best thing would have to be the people I've met and talked to along the way! There are so many great bloggers out there that I've gotten to know and have been able to "fan-girl" with (swooning over fictional boys alone just isn't as fun :P)
{This Week's Question}
Q: What writing device or trick most irritates you when reading a book? For example, if an author employs an omnipotent narrator that is sometimes considered bad form.
I don't think I'm necessarily irritated by any writing devices, but I do get frustrated when they aren't cleverly/properly used. For example, I get really annoyed when authors use foreshadowing in such an obvious way- I hate it when authors give away sooo many hints that I end up predicting the ending. I think foreshadowing is the best used when I can re-read a book and find something that makes me go...
If you're a new follower then please be sure to let me know in the comments- I will be sure to follow you back ! Thanks again to Parajunkee for featuring me this week! Be sure to leave your FF links below, see you next Friday!
Your Y.A. Bookworm,

Thank-you! I'm now following you back :)
DeleteI agree there are no specific things that bother me but some things that are not done well sometimes that bug me.
ReplyDeleteold follower
It can be so frustrating when they aren't used well- thank you so much for stopping by !
DeleteYay for being featured! I think sometimes hints are supposed to be given, that way the astute reader can see the ending coming, so nothing is overly shocking. You need to know where the author was going in the first place. But yeah, when the hints are too obvious it can be a bit of a downer.
ReplyDeleteHere's my Follow Friday
Have a GREAT weekend!
Old Follower :)
I agree, a book does need some hints but if its too obvious, I get really frustrated. Thank-you for stopping by!!! Happy Friday :)
DeleteYay for being featured! New follower! LOL. I find it funny when authors do that. Haha. I feel cool because I know what happens. I haven't come across many authors who do that though!
ReplyDeleteReally?! There's a few books on my shelf that definitely have this problem- thanks so much for the FF love! =)
DeleteCongrats on being featured Caitlin!! :D
ReplyDeleteAnd YES. Great pick! The foreshadowing in The Book Thief frustrated me so much!!

Exactly! The element of surprise is the best part =) Happy Friday!
DeleteHi! New follower here!
ReplyDeleteCongrats on being the featured blog! I also hate when the foreshadowing is completely obvious. It ruins the suspense. On a side note, how are you reading FINALE? I thought it wasn't released yet? I am soooo very jealous *pouting*. :)
Peace & Love
Crystal @ www.yasociety.blogspot.com
Thank-you so much! FINALE was released in North America his past Tuesday =)
DeleteCongrats on the feature! Yes! I hate when foreshadowing is done badly. I seem to notice it more with TV shows though.

DeleteRound of applause for the feature!! Haha, yup foreshadowing is a fabulous tool and I love when it's used well ~ makes for a very interesting read... But sometimes rather that "foreshadow," authors give the whole image away...

Keely @ Realms of an Open Mind
Aha, thank-you so much! I agree- foreshadowing used properly makes for a interesting novel! Happy Friday :)

Thanks for the follow ! :)
DeleteHehe so true. Good answer!
ReplyDeleteCongrats on being a feature this week! New GFC follower :)
Thank-you so much! I'm now following you :)
DeleteI'm usually ok with a semi-predictable ending -- the journey there is half the fun :) I called most of 'A Million Suns', but it was still very enjoyable.
ReplyDeleteThere definitely needs to be a balance between too predictable and 'Holy cheeseballs, this ending came out of nowhere!' I flipped when I got to the end of Variant (by Robison Wells), because the plot twist was so out there that it didn't fit with the rest of the story.
Old follower hopping through. My blog is nickieanderson.blogspot.com
I agree- you need that balance! Happy Friday :)
DeleteThat bothers me too! I hate being able to guess the ending. Haha.
ReplyDeleteI'm a new follower, my FF.
It's no fun when you can guess everything that happens :( Thanks for the follow !
DeleteHuh, I see what you mean. Some books are a little too predictable. But I don't really find that problem very often, maybe too I am too oblivious? :P
ReplyDeleteNew follower on GFC, here's my FF
I don't see it often, by I do see it every now and then :) Thanks for the follow!
DeleteYes, I don't like when they foreshadow so much I can figure out everything that is going to happen. New GFC Follower!
ReplyDeleteOur FF is at Book Sake. –Jessica
Over-foreshadowing just takes the fun out of guessing ! :P
DeleteThanks for the follow- just finished visiting your blog !
I forgot to add predictablity to my list :( Great one! Congrats on being a featured blogger!

DeleteHeey
ReplyDeleteI totally agree, sometimes authors feel their writing is too clever for the reader and they need to drop hints, whereas they should perhaps do the opposite! Congrats on being feature and I hope you have a great weekend! Hop on over if you have the time:
My Friday post
Juli @ Universe in Words
Yeah, it can go both ways! Thanks for stopping by !
DeleteIt takes a very talented author to surprise the reader at the end. But I really appreciate when they do! Congrats on the feature. Old follower... My FF
ReplyDeleteI agree- but when they're able to do it, it can create a fantastic cliffhanger!
DeleteI AGREE!! Obvious "foreshadowing" (in quotations because if it's obvious it shouldn't count) is SO annoying.

DeleteCongrats on being featured this week!
ReplyDeleteI completely agree. Nothing really bothers me when it's done well. When it's not, lots of things bother me. I definitely agree about foreshadowing. It makes a book so blah when I've figured it out already!
Old Follower Here's my FF: http://meganm922.blogspot.com/2012/10/feature-and-follow-fridaywriting-tricks.html
